  1. What does a "private" area of a website involve?Webhooks, tokens, APIs? I am developing a website which will allow registered users to register, make a payment, and then get transferred to an area where they write an online essay in a textarea. I DON'T WANT NON-PAYERS TO GO HERE. The payment mechanism that I want is STRIPE.COM or one of its 3rd party affiliates, such as gohelium.com or spacebox.io . With STRIPE (or one of its affiliates, such as gohelium.com or spacebox.io), it's very easy to setup, and after a person makes a payment, I have no problem making them visit any page after that, even cnn.com or reddit.com . However, what I'm wanting to do is redirect them to a site within my webpage that only payed members can enter. I don't want a non-payer to be able to be able to visit this site. My site is being developed in PHP. How do I create the most austere and simple re-directed site for payed users?
  2. I'd like to create a textarea such that when one textarea is complete, another identically-sized text area magically appears and floats to the right. The new "spill over" text would now be here. Another way to explain what I'm looking for is this: Open up MS Word, and view the screen at 25%. Now keep on typing or keep adding text. Notice that when the words start "spilling over", a new sheet of paper (i.e. textarea) appears? This is what I'm interested in doing, but with HTML and/or CSS. So far, here is my source code. It's very basic for now. HTML SOURCE CODE: <!doctype html><html lang="en"><head> <meta charset="utf-8" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="theTextArea.css"></head><body> <textarea id="theTextArea" spellcheck='false' cols="185" rows="33" ></textarea></table> </body> </html>----------------------------------------------------------------------------------CSS SOURCE CODE:#theTextArea { -webkit-border-radius: 25px; -moz-border-radius: 25px; border-radius: 25px;margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;background: #ffffff;border-top: 10px solid black;border-bottom: 10px solid black;border-right: 10px solid black;border-left: 10px solid black;padding: 10px;font: 18px tahoma; }
  3. This is what the code looks like in it's entirety, and I'll be sure to point out LINE 31. # Check form submitted.if ($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == 'POST'){ # Check Subject and Message Input. if ( empty($_POST['subject'] ) ) { echo '<p>Please enter a subject for this post.</p>'; } if ( empty($_POST['message'] ) ) { echo '<p>Please enter a message for this post.</p>'; } # On success add post to forum database. if( !empty($_POST['subject']) && !empty($_POST['message']) ) { # Open database connection. require ( '../connect_db.php' ) ; # Execute inserting into 'forum' database table. $q = "INSERT INTO forum(first_name,last_name,subject,message,post_date) #THIS LINE BELOW IS LINE 31. VALUES ('{$_SESSION[first_name]}','{$_SESSION[last_name]}','{$_POST[subject]}','{$_POST[message]}',NOW() )"; $r = mysqli_query ( $dbc, $q ) ; # Report error on failure. if (mysqli_affected_rows($dbc) != 1) { echo '<p>Error</p>'.mysqli_error($dbc); } else { load('forum.php'); } # Close database connection. mysqli_close( $dbc ) ; } }
  4. Whenver I type in apostrophes (and probably other characters - haven't tested) in a text box, I get the following error message: Notice: Use of undefined constant first_name - assumed 'first_name' in C:\Program Files\PHP5\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\post_action.php on line 31 What should I do to allow apostrophes and other characters?
  5. I am creating a nifty site using an online website developer called yola.com. I'm adding some HTML coding that I'm putting together. I'm trying to create a "nested pulldown": When a user pulls down the first menu which lists the 50 states of the USA, the second pull down menu becomes auto-populated with all the entities affiliated with that state. How do I go about doing this? So far, I have only 1 pulldown menu, and it contains all 400+ entries. It is not elegant at all and quite ugly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In the past, I've tried looking at the source code from similar pulldown menus on cars.com (where they have "nested pulldowns" - when you select "Acura" for example, the next pulldown would get populated with "Integra, RL, etc.") as well as viewing the source code for a pulldown on yahoo.com. Basically, my source code below is not elegant. It has all the entries. I'd like to segregate the states with the testing sites. Another words: A pulldown for "States" and another one for "Testing Centers within that state". 6. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for me. I want to clarify some of my questions that I have for you. 2. I'm not sure if you're familiar with moonfruit.com or wix.com . These are sites that you can design your e-commerce website. I've noticed that moonfruit has some beautiful features that wix.com does not have, and vice versa. How would I be able to "port" the source code from these websites to another website? Another words, how would I host my website which I'm designing on moonfruit.com and wix.com to another different site? I have a feeling that I must copy the pertinent files and the source code and move it to the new location. 2. I was wondering how much it'd cost to develop a timed-testing environment to do the following:a. Develop a testing-environment where users can take a 30-minute essay. We'll provide the topic, and you will have exactly 30 minutes for your essay.b. This site requires e-commerce capabilities. You must pay $5 to use my site and, hence, be able to type in an essay in my timed environment. ALSO, ONLY PEOPLE WITH EMAIL ADDRESSES ENDING IN .EDU CAN ENTER. c. I will have some marketing questions prior to writing the essay. However ,they will be "actionable" marketing questions. for example, one marketing question will state "When will you be taking your AP English exam?" and my solution will send an automated email 24-48 hours prior to wish them good luck. I have a feeling that this will be a very manual operation. d. You will not be able to take screenshots of the testing environment. Kind Regards,HP
  7. I'm developing a nifty prototype of a future online solution that I'm envisioning. Some of this is developed on moonfruit and other parts are developed in wix. In the future, some of my work will be developed in wordpress and some others would be developed in moonfruit. Is there a way to integrate moonfruit with wordpress?If so, how?
  8. I was told by some folks in another discussion group that I'm in to place this in the Java or PHP area. I would like to create a website which would allow users to submit an essay. Their essays would be in a timed-environment, and hence, the site should have a countdown timer, which I heard is very heard to implement. From experience messing around with moonfruit, squarespace, widgetbox, and wix, I'm not sure if having a countdown timer is super difficult, but to have one that fits the flow of what I'm after maybe a challenge. 1. I have no clue which programming language, scripts, etc. to use, or how to go about doing it. Do you think that I should use .PHP or .ASP? I realize that .ASP is like VS Basic and PHP is more like C-language. But I'm hearing more bad things about PHP. For a timed-essay web system that's highly modified, what would you use? 2. I want to design the basic look, feel, menus, etc. using moonfruit, wordpress, and squarespace. However, how do I transfer these files to one website which has features from both web-developer's site? 3. What would be your cost estimates for a website that fulfills what I'm looking for? After the student does an essay, a few processes occur, such as me and a grader will score them and mail them back, among other things. Also, there would be a questionnaire and a database involved. An order-of-magnitude approximation estimate is what I'm interested in.
