  1. Hello, I have Events and Tickets tables. In Tickets table I have at least the following fields: EventsID CustomersID TicketNo ... The number of tickets for an event varies between 500-20,000. That means the number of records after 100 events may be 50,000-2,000,000. I wonder if it is better for each event to have a different table, which means I have 100 tables with 500-20,000 records in each. Which design is better for selecting/querying customers records? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hello, I was perousing the CSS Transform examples and checked a playit. Do the playits have to use radio buttons for the inputs? Why not use a slider (like <input type="range" />)? Regards,
  3. To sum things up... I'm looking for as much reviews as possible. I've been working on minestatus for the last year now. I've come across many programming roadblocks and developments to further improve the quality, user impression, user interface, and user engagement. If you guys have any ideas on how to make my site better in any of those categories that would be amazing. Thank so much! Link to site: http://minestatus.co Site Name: MineStatus Site Description: MineStatus is a new social sharing plateform I've created. It allows users to make there own profiles, upload content, display the content. You can even share your content on MineStatus to almost any other social network without flaw. 4. HI: I have a responsive web design with links to pages at another website, which is a site that is NOT mine. However, the pages at the other site have 2 different URLs. For example: (www.thispage.com/page-1.html or www.m.thispage.com/home.html, as a reference to a mobile page) . In other words, one link at the other site is for desktop viewers and the other link is for mobile users, but all links meant for desktop users are redirected and go directly to their home page (not to the mobile equivalent page). If a user at my website clicks on a link to their website from a mobile device, they are clicking on a link meant for desktop users. But if the user is at my website on a mobile device, the other website redirects them to their mobile "HOME PAGE", thus requiring the user to navigate to the specific page FROM THE HOME PAGE OF THAT SITE. [NOTE: I have the direct links to the specific mobile pages at the other site, but just don’t know how to give my mobile users the option to access them from a single click.] I want my mobile users to be able to go directly to the specific page of the other site without having to navigate to it from the home page of the other site. In short, if my user is on a desktop, they will go to the correct page. But if on a mobile device, they will go to the home page (not the specific page) of the other site and have to navigate to the specific page from there, which can be a real hassle. Here is my question: Is there an inline html or javascript code I can add to each outgoing link that will take the user directly to the specific page I want them to land on if they are using a mobile device instead of a desktop? For example: href = www.abcd.com/page.html (but if less than 800px) go to www.m.defg.com/page2.html. Please keep in mind, my site is already responsive, so I do not need a redirect for my pages, as they are mobile ready. I just need to create redirect links to the pages of the other website if my user is on a mobile device. Please help. Thank you.
  5. Hello everybody here! This is my 3rd step that I want to learn Java Script Language. Before I've finished HTML and CSS. Please, Could anyone share some informative links that make me happy to learn it soon? Thanks in advance...
  6. Hi. I am making a website for a friend who has a ridingcenter. I am having some issues with Mozilla. First issue is that i have used div, p and css to create a "link" line on the pictures in the image slider. This is working great in Chrome and Safari, but mozilla is for some reason splitting it in two lines. I have used <li> tags inside he <ul> which is the slider. Any idea on how i can get Mozilla to read it in the same way as chrome, or any better ways to do this? E.g. <li class="carousel-inner clearfix"> <img src="img/bilde3.jpg"> <div class="carousel-caption"> <p class="cycle"><a href="rideskole.html" class="button1">Vil du bli like god som Sigrid? <font size="2"> Trykk her</font></a></p> </div> </li> 2nd issue is that i have used instafeed to display instagram pictures in the end of the main page. Chrome and safari is displaying these according to the "zoom" design attribute, but mozilla for some reason dont display this, and is not zooming the pictures. Any idea why? Zoom is put in the CSS code: #instafeed { zoom: 1.6; margin: 8px 15px 15px 14px; padding:5px 5px 1px 5px; } I really hope for some good ideas, as i have spent a lot of time trying to solve this Best regards, Ronja
  7. I find this tutorials very useful and I think it will be really handy if you do Bootstrap tutorial. On site getbootstrap.com is nice documentation, but some things aren't explained so well.Who think this is good idea? Thanks.
  8. I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask (forgive me if it nots), but a recent design issue with my website has made me think about the overall design of the site, and i thought I would ask you guys which you think is best. I'll get straight to the point: Is it better to have the webpage adjust it's size based on the size of the browser, or just an absolute size that never changes?
  9. I just need help please with linking to my facebook correctly. Please be nice , and I'm sure this is pretty easy for everyone else, but I am having trouble with it. 10. Okay, this is a little hard to explain, but i try. As you see on the attached/uploaded picture, i wish to make a div like the page i found some days ago, it's easy i know.. BUT, here comes my problem. I am using a template/global design via a file called template.php inside (root/templates/template.php), and in there i have my menu to be shown... now, i wish this sub-menu to be shown, and i have done that, only problem is, that file is to be used on global design, meaning this div will be shown on ALL files (pages). Now my question, is it possible with if and else statements (possible functions also), to make it show only on 1 file, the file called: webshop.php this is how my code inside template.php looks like right now: //=======MENU$HTMLOUT .= "<div id='menu'>"; $HTMLOUT .= "<a href='#'>123</a>"; $HTMLOUT .= "";$HTMLOUT .= "</div>";//=====SUB$HTMLOUT .= "<div id='under_menu'>"; $HTMLOUT .= "123";$HTMLOUT .= "</div>";//=====SUB//=======MENU my first thought was to use a if isset statement saying if a file was open, i did try search on google and other few forums/places, but without luck.. any ideas would be awsome!
  11. hello again...i have been thinking, when im making a table, lets say 100% to fill out the div i just gave, it DOES go out.. but when i have like 3 td's to fill out, it keeps pushing to the other site.... i would like it like shown below: PICTURE ATTACHED in the picture you can see however much text you now put in, the boxes still have the same width.. is that a normal css class editing with width?, or some sort of speciel method you guys use?... Hoping you understood what i said, had a little bit trouble explaining about it, lol X)...
  12. hello w3 once again, i have a question. for the momment being, im trying to play a little bit with the scrollbars, to edit the colors on the and stuff like that. well, a question is needed to be asked X).. as you can see on the attached picture i have added, there is a little annoying white box if the scroll-bars ARE going horizontal ect... is there a way to edit that part also?... right now i have following in my css style: ::-webkit-scrollbar { width: 10px;background-color:#333;}::-webkit-scrollbar-track { -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.3); border-radius: 10px;background-color:#333;}::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb { border-radius: 10px; -webkit-box-shadow: inset 0 0 6px rgba(0,0,0,0.5);background-color:#666;} is there something i need to add?, or something i just can add to the following i already has here?... thanks in advance!
  13. yoyo w3...a question is needed again.. i was the other day looking at a friends website, and i saw this in he's coding: EXAMBLE: <head><meta http-equiv='Content-Type' content='text/html'; charset='iso-8859-2' /><title>TITLE</title><link rel='shortcut icon' href='favicon.ico' /><link rel='stylesheet' href='CSS.css' type='text/css' /></head><body><main class='outer'><main class='main'>123</main></main></body></html> now to my question, the MAIN tags itself, is that a good or bad way of coding?... i mean, if it was me and i was designing, lets say a webshop, then i would use div's and tables... but the way he is coding, i did see it before some other time on a email system thing, but my question is if it would be better that way or the other?, or does it really matter?... -thanks

  15. hello all how to make italicize the fonts or make the words in italics in the following computes: 'W/F: ' + if ( isnull( brand_drug ) , ' ', ' ' + brand_drug ) i only want to make the part if ( isnull( brand_drug ) , ' ', ' ' + brand_drug ) in italics and to maintain the font style for 'W/F: ' cheers!
  16. Hi, i'd like some feedback please, if its possible. I 've found this article ( http://webdesign.tutsplus.com/tutorials/complete-websites/create-a-dar k-clean-website-design-in-adobe-photoshop-free-psd/ ) that teaches how to design a website in photoshop. I can guess how is going to be the structure of the html and css in general, when turning this psd mock-up to an html document, but my main focus is on the coding process of banner/ slider area of the website, and i'd like to know which is the best or more efficient way to code it in some parts, like: the gradient background: is it better to code it with css or export it as an image-graph and add it as a background to a div [like background-image:url('image.jpeg') ]? NOTE that there are 3 gradients (step 8 of the article). the shadow effect: how can i make the shadow look like this? it does not extend to the full width of the slider and also has a different shape. Generally the shadow effect look like this http://www.w3schools...css3_box-shadow , but the one in the article looks totaly different. Finally about the slider and the logo: both look like they are standing on top/in front of the layout, is this has to do with the z-index property? both are are not placed in the same height as their sections, they are possitioned/go more 'downwards', how is better to do it? by using some margin or padding or maybe setting their positions (top, bottom, relative absolute ... )? Please note that i'm talking about the development process, when creating an html document (html & css) in dreamweaver or any other editor, NOT how to design the mock-up.
  17. hello w3s again... i have trouble again with a self project, and this time (like allways) i have no clue why it does this... 1. i have some files like so given in picture: ATTACHED now inside the bittorrent.php file, i have my whole site defined in functions like so: <?php/*=========================*/$mysql_host = "localhost";$mysql_user = "root";$mysql_pass = "daniel1";$mysql_db = "ss_2012";$db_details = mysql_connect($mysql_host, $mysql_user, $mysql_pass);mysql_select_db($mysql_db, $db_details)or die(mysql_error());/*=========================*/function stdhead($title = "",$css_file = ""){$stdhead_start .="<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC '-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN' 'http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd'><html xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'><head><meta http-equiv='Content-Type' content='text/html'; charset=iso-8859-1' /><link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' href='styles/".$css_file.".css'/><link rel='shortcut icon' href='fav_icon.ico' /><title>".$title."</title></head><body>"; $stdhead_start .="<table class='banner_table' align='center' cellpadding='0'><tr><td><a href='index.php'><img src='styles/images/banners/banner.png' width='1000' height='140' alt='SS_2012' /></a></td></tr></table>"; $stdhead_start .="<table class='status_table' align='center'><tr><td class='status_left'>LEFT</td><td class='status_right'>RIGHT</td></tr></table>"; $stdhead_start .="<table class='menu_table' border='0' align='center'><tr><td class='navigation'><a href='index.php'>HOME</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='browse.php'>BROWSE</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='upload.php'>UPLOAD</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='request.php'>REQUESTS</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='chat.php'>CHAT</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='forums.php'>FORUM</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='guides.php'>GUIDES</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='bonus.php'>BONUS</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='rules.php'>RULES</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='faq.php'>FAQ</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='links.php'>LINKS</a></td><td class='navigation'><a href='support.php'>SUPPORT</a></td></tr></table>"; $stdhead_start .="<table class='main_table' align='center'><tr><td>";return $stdhead_start;}//stdhead ends... function stdfooter(){$stdfoot_start ="</td></tr></table> <table class='foot_table' align='center'> <tr> <td>Speed-Scene © 2012 -> Revision 01</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html>"; return $stdfoot_start;}//stdfooter ends... /*====================FUNCTIONS PLACE!...====================================*/ function tr($x,$y,$noesc=0) {if ($noesc) $a = $y;else { $a = htmlspecialchars($y); $a = str_replace("\n", "<br />\n", $a);}print("<tr><td class=\"heading\" valign=\"top\" align=\"right\">$x</td><td valign=\"top\" align=left>$a</td></tr>\n");} function genrelist() {$ret = array();$res = mysql_query("SELECT id, name FROM categories ORDER BY name");while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($res)) $ret[] = $row;return $ret;} function StatusBar(){echo "<table class='status_table' align='center'><tr><td class='status_left'>LEFT</td><td class='status_right'>RIGHT</td></tr></table>";}?> and when i replace the status bar place with the StatusBar() Function inside the head function, then i get this result here: http://speed-scene.c...wrong/login.php and when i have the normal text building writed inside the place, then i get the normal design as i wish it to be like this: http://speed-scene.c..._good/login.php now, what i am in a need of, is that if someone can explain me why the design is going to be screwed up with all stuff, the fonts size,the status over the banner, even when i have said to it that it should be under it... then its placing itself up there -.-'... and im calling the designs like so as a example on my login page: <?phprequire_once("include/bittorrent.php");echo stdhead("Login","1");?> This is the Login Page!... <?phpecho stdfooter();?> so now i have my final question here... what the heck am i doing wrong?... someone?... ideas?... EDIT: and no, im not trying to make a torrent tracker... just called the file bittorrent.php for that name because i was trying to follow a tutorial .. EDIT #2: Did i post the right place at all?... mean, should i post in css section instead? ...
  18. This is my portfolio site that I am working on. I am not great with body copy so I am relying on imagery to distract from the fact that I do not have a lot of that and it's not my strong suit. The images on the work page is just placeholders. Any comments or critiques are welcome. http://www.t2cweb.com/newt2c/
  19. Hey guys this is my first site that I created : http://wheatleyspacelab.com/. It is supposed to be a fan site for the character Wheatley from Portal 2. I just want to know which areas i could improve and which areas I did well. Two problems that I have already noted, one the homepage the 3 boxes on the bottom have horrible text and I need to update the images on one of the slideshows. I haven't gotten around to making some of the other pages but before I do I want to know if my overall idea is good. Thanks

  21. Dear members, moderators and administrators,I thought of sharing this item of information with you on W3schools forum, may some members find them useful.Most of us the members concentrate on the technical part of the implementation and sometimes ask how do we know the "Usability, Quality, Measurement Criteria, Effectiveness and Interactivity" of our website projects.I haven't made this information myself; I have just studied during some previous year in university within a course (module) of Human Computer Interaction, thus thought of sharing them with you. Brief Introduction:-A main goal for an interactive system designer,"E.g. Website of any type or content" is to achieve the highest accessibility and usability on different scales for achieving the targeted success whether the website is for E- commerce within an E-business, gaming or even social networking; thus acceptability and user-engagement should be put into consideration.All these aspects are viewed by the three main essential categories that are known as TOP LEVEL PRINCIPLES:- Learn-ability Effectiveness Accommodation There also exist the key issues that those categories sought to fulfil: - Usability: - resembles the quality of interaction (A.K.A Quality of Service QoS), in terms of context elements such as time efficiency to perform tasks, number of errors expected and handling them. Acceptability: - resembles the level the system serves its regarded purpose in context of use and interaction (Note: - could be cultural wise). Engagement: - resembles and concerns designing to the utmost peak of success, (looks and feel wise), in addition most smooth experience. Access: - as simple as defining it as an ice-breaking key issue, concerns with the removal or elimination of all the expected barriers between the system and the user "E.g. cultural borders, social borders, and economic borders" ;thus THINK OF DESIGNING FOR THE UNIVERSE! THE TARGET IS UNIVERSAL DESIGN!! so DESIGN FOR ALL..Context: - First: - Learn-ability Visibility: - simply described as making the system's functionality visible, more like don't hide or immerse functional links or buttons within spots that confuse the users or make them ask where they are. Consistency: - means that the website's look and feel is not very much of a variable over different pages, “E.g. don't make the home page have this pinky colour while the other pages are darker and less radiant”. Familiarity: - Includes the usage of familiar language on the lists, menus, buttons and links “E.g. use register or sign up for more formal websites, yet you can use join us now for less formal websites; so it is subjective in an objective way or more like a mixture of both”. Affordance: - making sure that the design has the suitable Affordance for the users, by using familiar symbols and icons, “E.g. the check mark for okay or is more often used than thumbs up”. Second: - Effectiveness Navigation: - providing support to enable the users to move around the system conveniently by different methods, through maps, menu bars, search bars, links and etc. Control: - making the user in charge and control of the system, having all the “permitted” actions and interactions available for them to successfully interact with the system and experience the system's collaboration. Feedback: - the rapid feedback to the user from the system, so that they feel the system's environment and get an idea of how their actions have affected the system , “E.g. a thanking message to inform the user that registration has been done successfully”. Recovery: - the recovery of expected errors, more likely refreshing the page or sending the user back to the home page, or even refreshing the form, “E.g. the errors that rarely occur on Facebook that automatically refreshes the page”. Constraints: - the denial of some actions or entries by the user from the system, “E.g. invalid entries in the registration form, or even preventing spams from the users”. Third: - Accommodation Flexibility: - the allowance of multiple ways of performing any process within the system, either through navigation or any other aspect ,“E.g. allowing users to go to home page by either clicking on home or the website's logo”. Style: - the style, attractiveness or the user's satisfaction by the website's look and feel. Conviviality: - the system has to be polite, friendly and generally welcoming to all users regardless of race, beliefs, religions, nationalities or gender.
  22. I have taught myself web design from w3 schools and other websites. I am just an amateur still and looking to expand on my skills. I have fun coding websites from scratch and seeing what I can do. I am looking for amateur web developers who have some ideas on how to make coding more social and work together on some projects. I created a Google+ group to see what it can do: https://plus.google....749577265986159Also join this google group if you are interested in talking more about this: https://groups.google.com/group/socialcode?hl=en Check it out or post here.
  23. Newbie to web design here, so please dont judge if this is an "easy" questionI want to know how to set up a redirect of sorts. What i have planned is to have a really simple homepage on the website im designing, which will be a gamers website/clan, specifically geared towards black ops and world at war "zombies". The homepage will be just image links to the forums, news, trophy guides, facebook page, etc, and when a user clicks on any of these links i want a redirect for style purposes basically, which i will explain.In the games i mentioned, there is a teleporter that, when you activate it, you are surrounded by electricity and then teleported. I want to take about 10 screenshots of this and create an animated gif that will display as a full page animated background so that the user "teleports" to the forums, news, etc. just as if they were playing the game. Might sound cheesy but for fans of the game, and with a well done gif, i think it may look nice. Usually when i get redirected im on the redirect page for 2-5 seconds so this is a perfect time frame since its a similar time frame in the game.Thanx in advance
