Iis Configuration

Hi there, i have installed IIS on my machine as directed in w3schools but now when i try accessing localhost in my browser, i get a popup dialogue box which says " authentication required ", and asks for a username and password for http://localhost. Please tell me how to access IIS. thanks to all.

Find your web directory, such as c:\inetpub, and make sure the IIS user has permission to access it. You can right-click on the directory and select Security, or Properties and then the Security tab, and make sure the user that starts with "IUSR_" has at least read access to the folders. It needs to have access to the inetpub folders and all folders underneath. Also, in IIS you can right-click on your web site and select Properties, and there should be a Directory Security tab where you can say if people need to authenticate to use the web site.

Hello justsomeguy,I'm having exactly the same problem as described here. I've tried what you've said and I still can't resolve the issue, I've been trying to configure for 5 days now, what else could I try? I'm not on the PC in question, I could past the page that I get in my browser if this would help you help me.I really hope you can help.Kind regards, WWW

I still couldn't configure it. IIS installed fine on my PC, was it anything to do with me originally trying this on my laptop? I'm a real novice, apologies if that's a stupid question. Thanks for your patience.

I don't think it has anything to do with the computer it's running on, it just sounds like IIS isn't configured to run ASP code. Which version of Windows did you install this on?
