First of all, some of you may have noticed that there is one mod less than there used to be. In the end of april, we found out that someone had gotten access to Alzable's account, logged in, changed the password, and edited various personal info. The Alzable account was stripped of the mod-status to protect this board and the messages. We have gotten PM's from the member Alzab, saying he's the real one and wishes to be let back on. Let me reassure you all that we are trying everything we can to verify if this is the real Alzable, or the imposter again trying to get access to mod-priveleges. If anyone have any sure way of knowing, we urge you to contact us! Thank you. Now, on this occasion, we can't think of a better time to remind you all to, please, be careful with your log in info!! We can't really stress this enough. There are people out there who may try to get access to your accounts for less than honourable reasons, or there may be "friends" who find your password, decide to have a little fun at your expense, and you find yourself having posted lots of stuff you really didn't, and subsequently banned. Spam: Recently, as you have all without doubt noticed, we have had lots of spam and advertisement on the forum. Therefore, we'd like to alert you as to what to do when you have found any of the aforementioned annoying messages:
Images in signatures: After thinking of users on dial-up, we have decided to enforce the following rules regarding signatures. Please pay heed to them. Respecting these rules is respecting the members on this forum with dial-up. Signature rules:
Links in signatures: Please understand that w3schools.com only exists because of voluntary work and is barely supported by the advertising littered throughout the tutorials and the forum. So, please, stop advertising other sites. DO not post links that drive traffic away from the w3schools domain - especially to a site that offers similar if not identical information. Please help support the site by keeping individuals on it. Thank you. Here are some guidelines as to what you can put in your signature:
On Jul 29 2006, at around 12 PM, this forum was "hacked" (or whatever terminology you want to use) by some idiots from a hacker website (forum) using IPB exploits. The database was deleted and we were set back 21 days from the last backup. Afterwards there was talk of retaliation by members wanting to hack them back. Let me take this opportunity to say this:We will NOT allow this forum and thus w3schools.com to be associated with hacking. Hacking is an illegal act, and punishable by law. The website in question has since been shut down through emailing their host, and we encourage people to use this procedure if ever subjected to similar unpleasantries. Posting Problems: Having problems posting your topic? Read through this:To join, you agree to our terms and conditions and fill out and submit a registration form. An activation email will be sent to your email adress, so you'll need to verify your account. After that the account has to be validated by one of the moderators. This will mean that it can take up to a day to be activated. A couple of things to remember to ensure approval:
Thanks for understanding, and for taking the time to read this. ~W3Schools Modstaff~ |
