Hi,You see those ads coming on the header of the website. They actually look very hedious accorindg to me and they should be made to blend with the background image of the header!!

These google ads you speak of have a lot of limitations to the amount of customizations that can be done to them. I don't think you can have any transparent backgrounds or background images.

I am aware of that. I use Adsense myself on http://iphotoshop.blogspot.com ... but they could change the header too....

Or Mod your HOSTS file to make them go away... :)Not that I would do anything to avoid looking at Ads....(*looks for a link to post here*)Try thisCan't remember where I found the procedure, but simply point the ad links to 127.0.0.1 (which is your own computer) and the ads won't be found.

I mean, I see them, but I don't. Learn to ignore ads, it's one of the basic requirements for happy internet browsing. :)

But if we ignore them, how will W3C earn bucks?

What can they do? They can't force people to look at banners. Some people see them and click them, other people don't. That's just fact, no changing that. If someone clicks the banners, they make some money on the banners, and that's incentive to have them there. People looking at banners won't make them any money either way. I learned to ignore banners a long time ago. Never needed ad-blockers. Before the browsers came with pop-up blockers though, those were a necessity for happy browsing.

Yea, sure they are annoying but they want some money too you know :)But Google Adsense is bad, because it displays the URL to the site that's advertising, so people can just copy that instead of making the people that own the website make money, haha...that's what I do.But the Google ads here, is that something you own Jonas, or is it invisionzone? Do you or Invisionzone get money when people click at them?

Jonas? I would bet my life not. Invisionzone... I believe not, scince they get payed for the hosting, regardless of the ads, but I'm not completely sure.

Mine? Where in the world would you get that idea? :) Of course they're not mine. Nor do I think they're Invisionzone's. Notice here in this post how I continually refer to "they" and "them" making money? I guess the decision whether to have the ads or not lies with the administrator(s). Of course, I can see why the ads are there, to create revenue for keeping the forum up. Servercosts and what-not, you know... :)

Would you really? Don't be too eager to put your life on the line... :)

I've always been curious--how much money do you think W3S gets from google ads? We must have quite an influx of visitors here..but since Google is reworking their whole darn system, I wonder... :)

back in 2005 Google made a huge change to its content network. Before this change advertisers that used AdWords (the ads that show up in goole search results and on AdSense websites) paided the same amount per click. For example if an advertiser paid $5/click for some high traffic keywords, they paid $5 whether it was clicked from search results ads or AdSense ads. After the change the advertiser could set different prices for reults ads and Adsense ads. This means that AdSense revenue went way down. They no onler paid $5 regardless of where the click came from, most advertisers keep there reults ads at $5 but changed their AdSense ads to $0.10 or $0.05.This spurred alot of "Adsense is over" talk around the Internet and some people made a lot of money for new advertising methods.I tracked a campaign called "The Death of Adsense" which spawned another campaign called "Life After Adsense". The creater of these campaigns claimed to have found a way to easily make $50000/mth by using AdWords and PPC networks. Regardless if his claims were true he managed to get 400 people to sign up for his "inner circle" which cost each of them $1000 in registration fees plus an additional $300/mth for the length of their subscription (you do the math). Needless to say I didn't give this guy any money but whether his methods actually help these people or is just another get rich scam he made a lot of money off the changes Google made using the feelings of didmay AdSense users were feeling.I have no idea how much this site makes from adsense, I can count the number of ads I have click on 1 hand, but hopefully they make enough to pay for the cost of this forum.

All I gotta say is that this is a free forum and to be complaining about any way the owners are using to try and keep it that way is just wrong. No one has control of the Google ads except the people who created them in the first place. Of course, you could have a talk with Google and ask them to put more restrictions on submitted banner ads - good luck. It is what it is so get used to it. This is a pointless conversation and should really end right here! But I'm not gonna play god and close it, but any other moderator who feels the same can go right ahead.Sorry for sounding a little abrasive, but this is free and you're complaining about the only source of revenue the owners can count on.Now if you were suggesting a way to make the ads more appealing, THAT would be different. But you are trying to find a way to make them blend in more so they are not so visible . . . .P.S. And its a banner ad - ONE banner ad. Its not like there are tower ads aligned down the left and right side of all the pages. We've all been to sites like that. I guess, the site is just that good if this is all there is to complain about.

I don't think the topic starter was complaining about the fact that ads are used on the site but suggesting they could be made to look nicer and fit with the forums theme.I agree that AdSense ads don't look so great but on the other hand the fact that they stick out is kind of a good thing if they are to be noticed.

i hate when google ads are styled to fit in with the design of the page. when they are mixed in with the content & styled to look like part of a sites internal links.

That's why webmasters do it, hoping to get you to click on the ads even accidentally.

Jonas:I didn't mean just you, but the W3Schools...hehe. Sorry for making this 'error' hehe :)
Exclude me from that, and you're right. I'm not a part of w3schools (or RefsnesData, the company behind w3schools.com), nor are any of the other mods. We're just volunteers. :)
