Na, BigAl75, there's nothing wrong with Dreamweaver. Especially not after you've paid for it :) Some people just prefer working direct on the code and don't mind alt+tab-ing to their browser and reloading the page. My alt+tab ctrl+r reflex is amazing :)

Alternatively Alt Tab F5...

Hey, I never learned that! I've always used ctrl+r with everything. I guess I could work on a alt+tab F5 reflex now :) good tip!:sigh: feeling silly... when typing "F5" do not hit the "F5" button...

I think he says he uses netscape composer, just for general layout and tables, and then fixes it in notepad. :)

Nope, he means First Page 2000 by evrsoft. I'm surprised if no-one else knows it, because its quite a popular free editor, pretty good too if I remember. 2006 is out now apparantly.

I know someone who uses First Page and cliams it is excellent...I have never used it but I have seen it and it seems like it would be really good...and free too!

I still use DW for all of my CSS, XML and HTML editing. I have found that Notepad does the trick for writing PHP with one exception. Have you ever opened up a PHP file in Notepad and it didnt recognize the line breaks? When this happens, I tend to edit in Wordpad. It grabs all the breaks and wraps the text for easy reading and editing.

That file must not have been created in Notepad. I do the same thing...wordpad catches the breaks.

I don't do much advanced editing, so I find that notepad or GNU Nano wins the cake for absolutely everything. If I'm limited to editing on windows, sometimes I use mass text replacing magic using mIRC scripts (it's the only thing I can script in!) to fix mass errors, otherwise, it's off to freebsd and everyone's favorite sed expressions.:>

I really like the CoffeeCup tools.... Been using them for many years for my editing under Windows. Being a Unix/Linux admin and purest I use VI (Vim) a lot for quick and dirty edits... For that question about why VI... Well no mater what system I am on, it is there.. It has been a default piece of software for as long as I have been working on Unix type systems.. EMAC/NANO/PICO any of the others may or may not be loaded... Plus it was the first one I learned and learned the in's and outs.. It is a very powerfull editor...

well... good reasoning there. I guess I will get to know VI a bit better

I use ConTEXT for everything. There's no reason to use Notepad when there are all these free text editors around. Notepad is terrible. If it had syntax highlighting (or at a very, very minimum, auto-indenting) I guess I would consider it, but all Notepad does is write text. It wastes a lot of time by not helping the programmer out with auto-indent or highlighting. ConTEXT also has code templates so that you can paste in commonly used blocks of code. I keep the ConTEXT installer on my keychain, never know when I might need it.

A friend of mine sarcastly would say "A person must suffer and struggle, so he could know the next time" :) . I would say in simmilar manner that they use it because it's hard, thus considered a privilage if you're able to code in it.[edit] Phahaha. Nice analogy :) . Well, you'll still be considered "one of a kind" if you could do that you know :) .[/edit]

I know what you're saying, but eating with my feet doesn't make me appreciate my hands any more. It just makes me feel like a dirty ###### for eating with my feet.Edit: Please don't use bad language, we have members a young as 10 and 11 years old.Edit edit: I didn't realize the term for a son who doesn't know who his father is was considered bad language. Sorry.Edit Edit Edit: Well, it could be used that way, but then there's another application, and most young users will think of that. Plus the forum beeps it out anyway, and doesn't care how you've used the word. Thanks. ( I like edit contests :))
