Jonesy
Finally found the disappearing "edit" button; but, it's not available on my older post. Can you not edit a post after a certain duration? What about deleting altogether? Edited October 26, 2016 by Jonesy
dsonesuk
Use too, BUT! Not now.
justsomeguy
I added a cutoff to edit times a while ago, I didn't think there was a good reason to edit posts that were several months or years old. If there's sensitive information that you'd like to remove then let a moderator or admin know (but that's also what the edit window after making the post is for), otherwise the goal is to make sure that the questions and answers stay there for other people to see. The option to delete has never been enabled though.
dsonesuk
A day is too short, someone could point out mistake or you could find a mistake the next day, and you can't do anything but rewrite again in another post. Give it a few days at least. Considering this forums busy server issues lately, it seem a mistake to cause more work for it for one line post for correcting a mistake. justsomeguy
It was actually set to an hour, I increased it to 6. If there's a mistake which matters for the post I think it's fine to just make another post correcting the mistake. I've seen people here come back after their questions are answered and edit all of the posts to remove all of the text, that what we're trying to avoid. 6 hours, even with the server issues, should be plenty of time to come up with a reasonable post. dsonesuk
Considering you could post late in the day, go out, go to bed for more than six hours, seem a bit silly setting it to six hours, don't you think.
Jonesy
Justsomeguy - I only have 2 topics. The first included a link illustrating the problem I was having. BUT, that link changes from problem to problem for the time being. In the future, there's no telling what I'll have there and it likely will not be appropriate for this forum - commercialized, opinionated, whatever. Can you please remove it? I do think it's a bit silly to make a post, go out, go to bed, then decide you want to edit the post. Just post a follow-up. We can come up with any hypothetical for any time period. There needs to be a line, and I've set it at 6 hours. Can you please remove it?Done.
dsonesuk
A line which apparently we had managed to do without for last ten years or so, but because someone suddenly discovers this particular line could be set, they decide to implement it, probably without even discussing it with anyone else. justsomeguy
That's why some people are "admins". Like I said, I set it "a while ago". And I could swear that I already said I've seen people come back later and delete their content here. The only complaining I hear about it comes from you. I'm sure you can find something more worthwhile to discuss than exactly how many minutes one should be able to edit their posts.
