I've noticed that the monthly browser usage stats that W3Schools posts (http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp) differ significantly from the stats that the w3counter.com site posts (http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php)
Is there a relationship between W3Schools and W3Counter?
Which stats are presumably more reliable / trustworthy?

The school gathers data from its own visitors. So it is highly skewed toward web developers. This probably explains the high proportion of Firefox users.

W3Counter (as the global stats page explains) gets stats from all the sites who use their counter system, which report the info back to headquarters. Presumably the users represent a cross-section of the general surfing population. (Though it's possible that sites using W3Counter are not exactly random, so their users won't be either.)

Anyway, the surfers who get tabulated by W3Counter represent a different slice of the surfing population than the W3Schools population. So the numbers will be different, and the large difference in Firefox users is only to be expected.
