    Selectors- why?

Think I get it....not entirely sure of its usefullness yet but maybe I will when I move beyond experimentation and into full sites

    Selectors- why?

Why can you not just do <div> <something> </something> </div> if you want something inside div to be different?

    Selectors- why?

I'm just not understanding this. What is the point of selectors in CSS?Why is an element any different if you call it by a regular name in your css markup of if you call it .something.From all I can see they seem to work in exactly the same way. Why is that dot important?
  4. In my creating of websites and experimenting with various new bits of CSS and PHP I've found I'm creating far more problems for myself than are necessary- I'll try another solution, upload it then check...only to see its not working.I've wasted so much time due to this before I realised why- my site isn't refreshing for me right!I've tried all sorts of ways to fix this. I have jonny cache installed to stop it cashing- nope, I press shift and reload and a variety of other button combos- nope.About the only way I can do it is by loading up chrome or IE and having a look on there (I'm normally on firefox). But this only gives me one or two turns before it stops reloading again.So...is there any good way to absolutely make your site completely reload for you with the latest version every time?
  5. hmm, the logo no longer shrinks, but that was just a cool extra I wasn't planning on including myself. Works just the way I wanted it now. Thanks a bunch. And just missing out the width thing sorts the image scaling. Doubly great. Ta.
  6. The first one seems to do it- albeit looking slightly weird (giant logo I think is all).I'll try and figure out what you've done there and incorporate it into my css files. Thanks.edit- ack, the giant logo seems integral to the way you did it and the logo shrinks too. hmm....
  7. Hi, sorry, took me ages to reply but got waylaid with other things and wasn't messing around with websites. Thanks for the help but that doesn't seem to fix the problem, the bar keeps covering the entire top of the screen,
  8. I'm messing around and testing again here: http://cannygood.vacau.com/tester2.phpAs you can see there's a big red bar covering the menu and logo. This is....so-so looking, might be OK for other websites, but what I'm trying to get here is a closed in border around the logo and menu- something with a width no bigger than the main bulk of the website text.I can do this. I can make a box with a set width which surrounds the logo and icons. The trouble is...when I do that the menu loses its adjustability. The surrounding box is of a fit size and even when I shrink the page very small it stays the same size, it doesn't adjust the way it does currently. Is there anyway to reconcile the two options and have a small but adjustable box or is it a case of having to choose which I want?

    Making links unclickable

And that was elementary too...Note to self: Don't be trying to mess on with anything technical past midnight. Thanks all.

    Making links unclickable

Ohhhh bum. I was being stupid. deleted the <a href> from before it to make it font but I forgot that I needed the <a> for my css. Gah. Oh well, figured it.Now to try and figure out how to stop the active one highlighting.,

    Making links unclickable

Its weird..I'm not even sure why it isn't working just changing it into text. The CSS just speaks of text, not of links, and lists can be for text just fine normally. hmm that tries to take me to url/java script: void (i.e. page not found error)Also...it still make the mouse hovering over the area turn into a clikable link. Even if it did nothing it spoils the style a little, I want it dead.

    Making links unclickable

Can do. Just seems a bit cooler to do it this way. Also getting rid fo the link and changing it to just text gets rid of all the CSS formatting as well.
  13. So, I've got a navigation bar, it works well, changes colour when the mouse hovers over it and when it is the current page. However, one minor problem that still applies with it- the current page is still clickable. Its greyed out so I want it to be converted into just a unclickable button whilst on that particular page.Is there any easy bit of CSS code to null such things?

    Images won't centre?

Ah, so it has to be in a container? That could explain things.

    Images won't centre?

This is confusing, I think I'm doing everything right yet still....images won't centre for me.I have in my css file:img.middle {display: block;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto }and then in my page:<img alt="logo" class="middle" src="logo.jpg">yet stil the image always comes out stuck to the left in its default position. Any ideas?
