  1. I'm working on a site and i want to use icons to select travel modes,i have an working function but it only works with a selection input.Is there a way to modify it to be used with buttons? Thanks in advance! Function: function calcRoute() { var selectedMode = document.getElementById("mode").value; var request = { origin: thuis, destination: kabk, // Note that Javascript allows us to access the constant // using square brackets and a string value as its // "property." travelMode: google.maps.TravelMode[selectedMode] }; directionsService.route(request, function(response, status) { if (status == google.maps.DirectionsStatus.OK) { directionsDisplay.setDirections(response); } }); HTML - Select input <select id="mode" onchange="calcRoute();"> <option value="DRIVING">Driving</option> <option value="WALKING">Walking</option></select> HTML - Button input (?) <form id="mode"> <input type="button" onchange="calcRoute();" value="DRIVING"> <input type="button" onchange="calcRoute();" value="WALKING"></form>
  2. I was able to complete a live search with a T-SQL database similar to the design found here on W3Schools, though now I am running into some difficulties passing multiple arguments/parameters to the JavaScript search page. Basically, we thought it would be a good idea to let people search by just a first name or last name if they wanted, as well as searching by their affiliation. Here is an excerpt from the form that appears to be giving me the problems: <form><input type="text" name="name" id="nameID" size="40" maxlength="64" onKeyUp="showNames('nameID', 'typeID', 'firstLastID')"onblur="if (this.value == '') this.value = this.defaultValue" onFocus="if (this.value == this.defaultValue) this.value = ''"value="Enter a name or a part of a name here"> <br><select name="type" id="typeID" onChange="showNames('nameID', 'typeID', 'firstLastID')"><option value="All">Members & Staff</option><option value="Member">Member</option><option value="Staff">Staff</option></select> <br><select name="firstLast" id="firstLastID" onChange="showNames('nameID', 'typeID', 'firstLastID')"><option value="Both">First & Last Name</option><option value="First">First Name</option><option value="Last">Last Name</option></select></form> Right now the form is passing the literal names of nameID, typeID, and firstLastID when I echo the variables in a separate PHP file. I've tried single quotes (which gives the literal names), double quotes (does not work), and no quotation marks (does not work) around the arguments just to see if that was the culprit, but no luck there. Before using the ID's I had been using "this.value", though unfortunately I couldn't use that any longer once we added the additional arguments to showNames(). Finally, I tried removing all of the arguments from showNames() and collecting the data using "document.getElementByID('...').value" (where '...' is the ID) in the JavaScript function, but that didn't work either. Can anyone help me figure this out? Thank you!
  3. I'm wondering is it possible to make javascript that doesn't let the user go to example action="test.php" page if javascript says so. Example im having this javascript <script type="text/javascript">var r=confirm("Click the OK button now!");if (r==true){ alert("You pressed OK!");<!-- THIS SHOULD ALLOW THE ACTION (SO IT WOULD ALLOW USER TO CONTINUE TO ACTION PHP PAGE) -->}else{ alert("You pressed Cancel!");<!-- THIS SHOULD CANCEL THE ACTION (SO IT WOULD NOT CONTINUE TO ACTION PHP PAGE) -->}</script> So if user presses OK it allows user get to the next page and if user press cancel it doesn't let Oo found cool page with info at this http://www.htmlforums.com/client-side-scripting/t-how-to-cancel-submit-action-33810.html
  4. Hey there. I'm trying to build a contact form from scratch (using the W3Schools tutorials pretty heavily), but I'm having some issues. First off, I'd like to write in a bit of code that grabs the username of the person submitting the form, and sends it along with the other submitted information. Also, if the person isn't signed in, they won't be able to use the form. I'm sure this will involve some PHP, which I will be more than happy to do, if someone could perhaps point me in the right direction? <div id="events"><form name="event-submit" action="MAILTO:someone@example.com" method="post" enctype="text/plain">Event Name:<br /> <input type="text" name="eventname" /><br />Start Date:<br /> <input type="text" name="startdate" /><br />End Date:<br /> <input type="text" name="enddate" /><br />Location:<br /> <input type="text" name="location" /><br />Description:<br /> <input type="text" name="description" size="50" /><br /><input type="submit" value="Submit" /></form></div> (And yes, I do have my actual email address for the MAILTO property, I just omitted it for this post.) My main problem right now is, the submit button isn't working. Buttons and I do not get along, it seems...Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated. EDIT Okay, I apparently left off a rather important caret. The button is working just fine now, but is there any way to make the email not go through Outlook, and go directly to the email address?

  7. Hi folks, as the lovely HTML5 coming and proving that it's an unbelievable language , I found the new technique "Geolocation" very helpful to my project. as a part of my project, I have a simple form gathering info from the user such as name , email andthe latitude and longitude of the user's position. In w3schools's example , the latitude and longitude are returned as normal text above each other :Latitude: 00.0000Longitude: 00.0000 ( not really zeros ) my question is: after clicking on a button (say get location) , the latitude and longitude coords will be automatically inserted (filled) into 2 input boxes ( visible or hidden ) to be sent to the database after submitting the Form . is it something to do with innerHTML ? how to do that ? <form action="handle_form.php" method="post"> <p>Name: <input type="text" name="name" size="20" /></p> <p>Email Address: <input type="text" name="email" size="20" /></p> <p id="demo">Click the button to get your coordinates:</p><button onclick="getLocation()">Try It</button><script>var x=document.getElementById("demo");function getLocation() { if (navigator.geolocation) { navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(showPosition); } else{x.innerHTML="Geolocation is not supported by this browser.";} }function showPosition(position) { x.innerHTML="Latitude: " + position.coords.latitude + "<br />Longitude: " + position.coords.longitude; }</script></form> the geolocation part code from here:http://www.w3schools...ml5_geolocation
  8. Hallo, I'm trying to add a unicode HEAVY CHECK MARK ✔ and HEAVY BALLOT X ✘ to the input:focus:valid and input:focus:invalid respectively.I don't want to use a background-image as in many samples I found online.So I tried: input:focus:invalid:after, textarea:focus:invalid:after {content:"\2716";}input:focus:valid:after, textarea:focus:valid:after {content:"\2714";} I also tried content:"X" and content:"OK" in case the problem was unicode.But this doesn't produce any result. Any idea?My documents are HTML5 and CSS.Thank you
  9. Greetings,Hey everyone, I've had a query about how to create a form text box with some value inside that gets automatically cleared as the user clicks on it to edit it, more like this example on www.bodybuilding.com they have a sign in form at the right hand-side next to the flash slide show.. Sorry if my question is not that professional but I can't seem to know how from their source code.. Thanks for your time and effort..
  10. Hi. I have a website using a PHP require_once template that I created myself. I required the template file in my head, and it has functions to include the header, top navigation, and footer (which includes a smaller navigation menu as well). The whole website works like a charm, except for the footer navigation on the contact page. It works perfectly fine on all other pages, as well as when I comment out the textarea on the form. I have been studying and experimenting with HTML and CSS for some time now, and have never run into this problem. If I put a link immediately after the submit button, it works fine. But the navigation in the footer is rendered as text rather than links when my form has the textarea. Here is my HTML, pulled from View Source so as to show what each PHP function is doing, rather than having to post the PHP template file as well: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><!-- Title --><title>Brink Roofing Division</title> <!-- Meta Information --><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; I have tried putting a line break after the textarea. That was the only kind of answer I found on Google. I have also tried to put the form in a fieldset, thinking that may work. Nothing seems to work except for eliminating the textarea, which isn't exactly logical. Thanks,Mark

  12. What I am doing is checking for a null. I think I have not really crafted this properly. The form elements do contain a ' value="" ' in some cases. Should I be checking instead for ""? Do I need to convert window.physichaladdress to a string? This is the target line: if(window.physichaladdress != null) Thanks! <?php?><!DOCTYPE html><html><head><title>My Title</title><script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5/jquery.min.js"></script><script>$(document).ready(function(){$('#enteraddress').hide();$('#entercoords').hide();$('#theyellow').hide();$("#radio01").click(function() {if ($(this).is(':checked')) { $('#enteraddress').show(); $('#theyellow').show(); $('#entercoords').hide(); }});$("#radio02").click(function() {if ($(this).is(':checked')) { $('#entercoords').show(); $('#theyellow').show(); $('#enteraddress').hide(); }});});</script><script type="text/javascript">function sepysfunction(){window.physichaladdress = document.mymapgetter.physichaladdress.value;window.thelat = document.mymapgetter.thelat.value;window.thelng = document.mymapgetter.thelng.value;if(window.physichaladdress != null) {alert("Alert Sepy!");}</script></head><body><form name="mymapgetter" action="action.php"><div style='border: solid 1px black; margin-bottom: 10px;' id="legaldisclaimer"><h1>Legal Disclaimer:</h1><p></p></body></div><div style='border: solid 1px black; margin-bottom: 10px;' id="locationoptions"><h3>How would you like to enter your location data?</h3><input type="radio" name="radio" value="" id="radio01">By physichal address?</input></br><input type="radio" name="radio" value="" id="radio02">By latitude and longitude?</input></div><div style='border: solid 1px black; margin-bottom: 10px;' id="enteraddress"><h3>Enter your physichal address:</h3></br><input type="text" name="physichaladdress" value="" style="width: 100%;"></input></div><div style='border: solid 1px black;' id="entercoords"><h3>Enter your latitude and longitude:</h3><input type="text" name="thelat" value=""><- Lat.</input><input type="text" name="thelng" value=""><- Lng.</input></div><input type="submit" id="theyellow" value="getmap" style="width: 100%" onClick="sepysfunction()"></input></form></html>
  13. I created a php contact form for our Technology department in a school district. I would like to make a particular field required or optional based on the choice made in a dropdown menu.So, if the user chooses the Hardware or Software category, I want the barcode field to be required. If they choose Username/Password, I want the barcode field to be optional.Here is the part of the code that is validating fields: function died($error) { // your error code can go here echo "<b>We are very sorry, but there were error(s) found with the form you submitted.</b><br /> <br />"; echo $error."<br />"; echo "Please go back and fix these errors.<br />"; die(); } // validation expected data exists if(!isset($_POST['name']) || !isset($_POST['location']) || !isset($_POST['email']) || !isset($_POST['machine']) || !isset($_POST['problem'])) { died('We are sorry, but there appears to be a problem with the form you submitted.'); } $name = $_POST['name']; // required $location = $_POST['location']; // required $email_from = $_POST['email']; // required $machine = $_POST['machine']; // required $barcode = $_POST['barcode']; // not required $problem = $_POST['problem']; // required $issue = $_POST['issue']; $error_message = ""; if(($issue) == '') { $error_message .= 'Please select a category.<br />';} if(($issue) == "Hardware" || "Software" && ($barcode) == '') { $error_message .= 'The Service Tag/Barcode you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'; } $email_exp = '/^[A-Za-z0-9._%-]+@[A-Za-z0-9.-]+\.[A-Za-z]{2,4}$/'; if(!preg_match($email_exp,$email_from)) { $error_message .= 'The Email Address you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'; } $string_exp = "/^[A-Za-z0-9, .'-]+$/"; if(!preg_match($string_exp,$name)) { $error_message .= 'The Name you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'; } if(!preg_match($string_exp,$location)) { $error_message .= 'The Location you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'; } if(!preg_match($string_exp,$machine)) { $error_message .= 'The Machine you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'; } if(strlen($problem) < 2) { $error_message .= 'The problem you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'; } if(strlen($error_message) >= 1) { died($error_message); } The problem is that this always setting $error_message to 'The Service Tag/Barcode you entered does not appear to be valid.<br />'. So, when user selects Username/Password the error message is still preventing the script from sending the email.Any ideas?Lucas Land
  14. I've been working with php for a short time and picked this form up online to use for my contact page. When tested on my server, http://www.d1082919....h/contact2.html the text fields return all of the correct content (email, name, phone, etc.) to me in an email. When I put the site live, http://vitalhabitats.com/contact2.html the text fields all return blank. I still receive the email, but it looks like this: Email:Name:Phone Number:Comments:Newsletter: I cannot understand what the potential issue may be. I know the form works, just not on this server. My php file is attached for review. Any help is greatly appreciated. contactformprocess.php

    php form question

    What I have is several html files with a naming convention such that a user id number is the file name and then the .html extension, so if a user id is 10934, then the file that the user needs is 10934.html. What I want to do is have a php script such that the user will input their number into a text input box, and then when they press submit, the appropriatly named html file will display or an error html file will display. Does anybody have an idea about how to implement this? I am doing this so that my students can view their grades, so I cannot just have a list of links. Thank you for any help.
  17. Hello internet. I have been sending my site out to people to test out and mess around with and some feedback I am getting is that they are having pop-up blocker issues and even when they temporarily turn the pop-up blockers off they still do not get my echo's that I really need them to get. So - how do I send the echo right to the same webpage that the form is on?

  19. So the user enters a number. the number is stored as the javascript value "fname". When the user goes to a new page, i want that number to still display, but it does not. how can i push that number to the next messages? I looked at the php get method, but i don't see how i could automatically set the entry. So i just need to get this number to the next page. I don't really want to use cookies, i want to use the URL.

  22. Hello internet. I would like to start off by saying that W3Schools forum and all you great programmers that respond to these topics is INVALUABLE!!! Thank you so much. Here is my problem... I currently have only one form for my site<form name=tourney action="m m_post_process_4.php" method="post" onSubmit="return checkit()" target="_blank"> When all the requirements have been met (through the checkit function) the form is sent to the PHP file for processing. However, I have two submit buttons and would like each button to process a different function - one for checkit and one for checkit2. This may seem odd because you may say combine the two functions into one function but the problem I am running into is that I cannot seem to get the element ID during a submit action. If I could I would combine the two functions and run comparisons to do all the work. However, the PHP output keeps telling me "Undefined1" for the ID value I am trying to compare. Any thoughts?
  23. Hi, I am busy testing out a lightbox form that I'm working on and I've got all to work except the "success" or "thank you" page.Basically I want the user to fill in the online form and when the they are click 'submit', the "thank you" message or page resolves in the same lightbox that the form was in. Go to www.testing123.co.za/test.htm and click on that link you see saying "AJAX SuperBox".The lightbox is opening up an HTML page within in the test.htm page (basically acting like an iFrame?).When I click submit, the page resolves to the success.htm page (which it should) but not in the lightbox frame. I don't want visitors to leave the test.htm page. My headers at the bottom of my process php form shows as: '; $headers = "From: $from\r\nBCC:{$bcc}\r\n"; $headers .= "Content-type: text/html\r\n"; $success = mail($to, $subject, $sBodyNew, $headers); header('Location: http://www.testing123.co.za/success.htm'); ?> I assume the Location url above needs code added to it so that it works within the lightbox? Or is there an easier way to do this? Thanks guys!
  24. I am trying to create or form or even see if it is possible to have an html form where you have multiple check boxes and based on the selection of the check boxes it will send an email to different addresses.... Example: Checkbox 1 - person1@test.comCheckbox 2 - person2@test.comCheckbox 3 - person3@test.com Lets say I check box 1 and 3 on the form and I want an email created when I hit the submit button to have person 1's and person 3's email address in the TO field. Is this possible at all or does it even make sense? Thank you for taking the time to look at this.
  25. I'm looking to redo a form I have on my website. Currently the forms allows for users to select each separate category, and then when they click the value directs them to a url value in that category: Excerpt for current form: <form name="miscellaneous"><center> <select name="menu" class="airplanefoodsearch"> <optionvalue="/images/lounge-food/">AIRLINE LOUNGE FOOD</option> <optionvalue="/images/amenity-kits/">AMENITY KITS</option> <optionvalue="/images/air/cabins/">CABIN INTERIORS</option> </select> <input value=""onclick="location=document.miscellaneous.menu.options[document.miscellaneous.menu.selectedIndex].value;"type="button"> </center> </form> ********************This form works fine for users to browse each category. But now instead I would like to change the form to a search form. and this is what I came up with: <form name="search" method="get"action="/images/page/search/" ><center> <select name="airline" class="airplanefoodsearch"> <option"united">UNITED AIRLINES</option> <optionvalue="delta/">DELTA AIRLINES</option> </select> <select name="menu" class="airplanefoodsearch"> <optionvalue="lounge">AIRLINE LOUNGE FOOD</option> <optionvalue="amenitykits">AMENITY KITS</option> </select> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </center> </form> The issue is that when directed to the search url it adds extra characters= ? & etc. Is there anyway to tell the form, when you hit submit to go to: images/page/search/united+menu rather than: images/page/search/?=united&menu Because my search engine does not recognize any other characters other than the word, space, or the "+" sign. Any help or guidance is appreciated. I'm a newbie so please be nice.
