    W3Schools not working in IE8?

    For some reason the W3Schools website is not reachable in IE8. It simply gives a direct HTTP error and I cannot view any page. However the forum works just fine, but that is on a different domain anyway. Why is this? Is this a decision from W3S, to kick browsers that are too old, or is it some browser setting I myself overlooked? Because I find it very weird that W3S, who themselves are teaching how to be cross-browser, are not even compatible at all with this one. I was just trying to figure out whether I should be using the "lightgrey" or "lightgray" colourname, and I know IE8 is the browser that is specific on the difference, but I sadly cannot open this w3schools page about it in that browser because of this, or even any w3s page at all. I'm not necessarily asking for W3S to be compatible with IE8 if this is intended behavior, I know the browser is anciently old and I'm a dinosaur still trying to use it these days, but I just want to know why it is because this is strange. Thanks for your help.
  2. The columns are showing full width in IE7 & 8 even though i have set to 'col-sm-4'. i have used bootstrap files n respond.min.js locally inorder to eliminate probs caused by CDN links.. <head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"><meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="bootstrap.min.css"> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="bootstrap.min.js"></script> <!--[if lt IE 9]> <script src="http://html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script> <script src="respond.min.js"></script> <![endif]--> <title>Untitled Document</title><style type="text/css">.container-fluid { background-color:pink;}</style></head><body><div class="container-fluid"> <h1>Hello World!</h1> <div class="row"> <div class="col-sm-4" style="background-color:lavender;">.col-sm-4</div> <div class="col-sm-4" style="background-color:lavenderblush;">.col-sm-4</div> <div class="col-sm-4" style="background-color:lavender;">.col-sm-4</div> </div></div></body>

    IE8 image aspect ratio

    I am having trouble getting the height of an image to re-size in proportion to its width when the screen gets re-sized. I would like to only use CSS. I've looked around the internet and nothing I am finding is helping. Here is my CSS as of now #banner img{max-width:100% !important;width:900px;height:auto;} The width will re-size the but the height won't. This is only a problem in IE8 (which is 20% of all our site traffic). Can anyone help? Thank you,
  4. Mind you due to the work environment technical restrictions I can only use IE8.The OS is WinXP. For some reason that I'm failing to spot, I can't have both things at the same time. Is either the iframe tag or the textarea tag. I wonder if it's a limitation of IE8, or I'm just doing a "big NO NO". I would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me with this ;)Notice that if you are to remove the Comments tags from the iframe tag the textarea tag will no longer show. <html><head> <style type="text/css">div.c_notes { position:relative; width:400px; height=auto; left:600px; top:-600px;border:1px solid black;}div.d_titles2 { position:relative; width:1000px; height=35px; left:400px; top:-300px;background-color:000;border:1px solid black;}div.b_titles1 { position:relative; left:200px; top:-200px;height=35px; background-color:000; border:1px solid black;}div.c2_sources { position:relative; width:300px; height=298px; background-color:fff; left:182px; top:-10px;border:1px dashed green;} h5 {font-family:arial, sans-serif; /}h3 {font-family:verdana,sans-serif;/}th {font-family:verdana,sans-serif; color:ffffff;/}font {font-family:calibri, arial, verdana, sans-serif; margin-left:10px; /}font.smll {font-family:verdana,sans-serif; font-size:9pt;color:ffffff;/}td {background-color:white;}img.de3symb {margin-left:10px; /} /* padding-left:2cm; */ </style> </head><body> <div class="c2_sources"> <table> <tr> <td><!-- <iframe src="c2cbuttons.htm" scrolling="no" width="400px" > --> </td> </tr> </table></div> <div class="b_titles1" style="width:400px;"> Notes </div> <textarea cols="54" rows="16" scrolling="auto" style="background-color:#e8edef;color:000;font-family:verdana,arial;" >Replace this text with your own notes - Warning:Your notes will be erased should you refresh/reload this page.</textarea> </div> <!-- Notes ends --> <div class="d_titles2"><font> This is some text to fill in the cells. This is some text to fill in the cells. This is some text to fill in the cells.</font></div> </body></html>

The link: http://chrisport.zxq.net/ The css code is included in the hmtl file as one can see.

    Ie8 And <A Class

    Hello all,I have a problem for 3 days now and simply don't know what to do; google did not help.Basically I have to create a table on a website for upcoming events, some of which link to pages where people buy their tickets.I have assigned a class, ex1, to those links to style them in css.Works flawlessly in crome and in ff, as well as IE8 in compatibility mode, but not in IE8 which is the largest chunk of users and thus very important.The website is the following: *edited out, as it no longer exists*I understand that I have used mainly inline styles and yes I know external stylesheets are more useful, but as the url might give away, this is for me to see whether I can actually implement what is asked of me. The design is based on a printed sheet which students can hang on their walls, thus it is important for it to look like this.If you view the site in FF/GC you'll see the effect working, in IE8 however it displays the style of a:link, but actually does not link anymore, let alone hover/active. Interestingly enough, when tabbing through, a:focus works, as well as a:active and on pressing enter I get redirected as planned. This doesn't make sense to me and I have only found the common issue of IE8 ignoring empty anchors, which is not the case.Any help would be so, so, so much appreciated!!
