  1. Page Gradient Text

BACKGROUND: I like gradients because they are both colorfully attractive and easy on the eyes. They are also suggestive of binary thought and all that lies between the two polar extremes of 1 and 0. For these reasons I often employ gradients as the background colors of my <div> elements. Background gradients suffer from an important weakness, however: monochromic text is easy to read at one end of the gradient, but difficult to read at the other. QUESTION: Does anyone know of a way to cause text to change color as it is displayed across the width and height of the element that contains it? Roddy
  2. Hello, I'm a beginner website designer and am currently studying HTML5 and CSS at school. As of this, I have been assigned with a project in which I have to design and create a website on a specific topic. Using W3, I've come up with a navigation bar which is fixed and has links to other pages. I then wanted to add a cover photo/hero image too, but i cannot do both Navbar and Hero Image. If I have Navbar appear first in the <style> tag, then Hero doesn't work. Alternatively, If i use a Hero Image before Navbar, i cannot use the navbar. My question is, Is there a way to use both? I am very confused and would appreciate all the help i could get Regards,
  3. I think I read somewhere that ALL text should be enclosed inside paragraph tags. But what I don't recall is it literally ALL text regardless of other tags? For example, inside <h-> tags, inside <div> tags, inside <li> tags, etc etc etc, should literally ALL text be enclosed in paragraph tags? In <li> tags if I use <p> tags then the text is dropped one line below the list item marker symbol, which is bad, so I don't use paragraph tags inside <li> tags. In <div> tags I have used paragraph tags only when there have been more than one paragraph. For years now I have been using paragraph tags for paragraphs outside of other tags, such as those I already mentioned, but should I be enclosing text in <h-> and <li> in paragraph tags? My goal is to write the most accurate markup possible.
  4. Hi, I just need a simple code to add space between words. I have some text above a pic so I would like one word to align to the left and the other to the right. So it would be (if you refer to the image) Seca 674 Information. One of my words is actually a link to another page though so not sure what I can use. I thought of using <p>...</p> but then the height spacing is too big (like the top image in the picture attached). Help! Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

There is no space between the image and the text. I tried padding the #parc2 (second article that was beside the image but still no effect). The image has a black border that I don't want to remove. If I add padding to the image the border sticks to the text(arc2).

  9. Hi there! I'm new! Got my first qustion. I originally wanted to use the <marquee> tag to move multiple words across my page, thus moving them offscreen, in a continuous loop. However, I found out the marquee tag is obsolete, and now I have to use the CSS3 Animations and Transitions to do the same thing. However, I can't find a way to make the word slide off screen entirely, and then simply reloop, like a regular marquee. Can someone please help me do this, in the simplest way possible? Also, since I'm new to this particular section, please give all your advice in the simplest way! I want to say thank you in advance as well.
  10. Default font styles

Hello, I'm working at a site in wordpress, I use 'inspect element' a lot, and I want to know how can I see all the default font styles and their preview, so I can choose it more easily. In inspect element it only shows me the one available for font-family : serif, sans-serif, monospace, fantasy etc. Is there maybe a site or something (or a chart) where I can instantly see all those default text styles (so not something I have to download), and their preview? Thanks.
  11. I am creating an app with much text-information. So what is an easy way to link all the text and pictures to the index.html file? Using iframe? When using iframe only 3-4 cm of the text shows… <iframe id="iframeGeo" src="teoritekst/page7Geology.html" frameborder="0" height="100%" width="100%"></iframe> In the index.html file I have this code: <div data-role="page" id="page8Production"> <div data-role="header" id="txtHeader"> <h1>Produksjon</h1> <a data-role="button" id="btnBack" href="#page6Knowledge" data-inline="true">Back</a> </div> <div data-role="content"> <div class="div-widget"> <div> <blockquote class="txthistorie"> <span id="txtInfo"><h1>Utvinnning</h1></span> <a href="" class="thumbs"><img src="images/plattform.png style="width:304px;height:228px"/></a> <p>very much text here, therfore I have to link to another htmlfile. I cannot write all this in index.html</p> </blockquote> </div> </div> </div> In this application, there are some buttons, when clicking them you can read a lot of text. This hurry bit, so grateful for all the answers. Sorry for my bad english.

  15. floating text issue

Hi, I am building my first web site & very new to html code etc.... One problem I can't seem to solve is that in my site I have two tables next to each other. One floating right & one floating left. They are different heights & will fluctuate in content over time as they contain variable information. Under the two tables I have a <p> footer with some text in it. I can sometimes get the text in my web editor (web expressions 4) to span the page & sit under both tables, but this never works in all browsers when I preview it. Some let the text float up under the shorter table & some span the text at a random point? What is the best code to allow text to always span the page & not float up, but at the same time be responsive to the changes in the tables heights? Have tried divs, breaks & lines but without success in chrome/IE/firefox (using eric meyers css/reset as well to null any variables). Thanks. PS: w3sch is an excellent resource.....
  16. Remove the "bleeding" of a text selection

Hello, I wanted my website's display area to be exactly 768 px centered on the page. So here's the css properties I applied to the "main" div that contains every element I add on my webpage: div#main { margin-left: auto ; margin-right: auto ; width : 768px ;} It works, fine, however when I select several lines of text inside it, the blue selection is bleeding all the way to the left and right of the window (see attached image). How can I prevent this from happening? Thanks for reading! Thomas
  17. Glitches During HTML Download

Hello! I am by no means a professional - excuse what may be a silly question, and definitely silly code! I have 2 problems I would define as glitching and shifting that I cannot solve: Here is the site I am discussing: http://conservefineartsonoma.com/index.html 1.) A complete shift of text and a smaller header logo when you click the CONTACT link. http://conservefineartsonoma.com/Contact.html 2.) When each link on the page is clicked, the entire page formatting shifts until the page has downloaded. What is this?? It's driving me bonkers.... I have included the CSS and a few pages from the site to this posting since I have no idea which part of the code is at fault for either of these problems. Any help would very VERY much appreciated - trying to get it nice n smooth! stylesheet.css Contact.html Deakin.html index.html
  18. Can anyone account for these differences?

Hello again, It would seem that the final piece of my puzzle doesn't want to play nice. I've wrapped my footer links and text in a <div> and styled everything so that the footer is nice and centered, filling the width of the site_wrap <div> it is all within nicely- that is in IE any way. In Firefox there are clearly differences between font width (which should just be font-size), line-height, font-weight, letter-spacing and word-spacing. To combat this, I tired styling each of these properties with exact values (in case browser-default stylesheets were slightly different) as follows in the bottom 5 properties: #bottom_links { width: 1200px; align: center; margin: 0 auto; position: relative; top: -60px; left: 20px; font-size: 11.3px !important; font-weight: 300 !important; line-height: 15px !important; letter-spacing: 0px !important; word-spacing: 0px !important; } Note- the !important's shouldn't even be needed as there are no other calls to #bottom_links any closer to the content, but I even tried it in case. Yet none of this styling had any effect. The result didn't change a bit: An example of this has been posted at http://www.surefireny.com/footer_problems.html as I am sure I must be missing something in the code or CSS
  19. text files

what are text files acctually used for?
  20. I just put together my own website on Weebly and need someone to give me some feedback on ease of navigation, the photos of my work, the text, and overall. I would also like to know what is the best way to advertise to get people to my site. I have almost a non-existent budget for more advertising since I'm also applying to outdoor juried shows. I have already tried Google adwords but got nowhere with that. Thanks in advance www.silverclouddesigns.net
  21. text-- line spacing

I would like to place a poem on top of an image I have already made. I want each line of the poem to be single spaced and the starting letter of each line to be vertically below each other as it would be in a column. I want the column to be on the right hand side of the image. How do I regulate the spacing between the lines of text? How can I ensure that each line of the poem is retained as per the original layout? How do I position the column of text on the image?
  22. Hi Can someone point me in the direction of a tutor so I can learn how to remove or hide things using css. I'm running a wordpress woocommerce store and need to add css in a plug-in box that will remove or hide items. If I have to I can find the css sheet for the plug-in and work from there. I know how to build a basic css sheet to make my own pages but never tried to remove anything using css. Any help of where I can find a good tutor would be much appreciated.Kimberly
