Small Business

I've been working on a site for my small contracting business. It is only a day or so into production, but I was wondering if you could critique the design before I continue on, and get too far into the site. Currently, the links don't go anywhere, so what you see is what you get. Thanks in advance.Click Here

Looks nice. Seems a little too much image heavy, but that may be just me seeding torrents right now, so I guess it's fairly well on performance. You have a little too much "bla bla" text on the page. I hope the final version of your home page will omit some of it. It will be best if you can desribe "we" in 3 lines or less, omitting stuff like "In a continually advancing technological society" (a simple sentence portion of the complete complex sentence, that alone serves no purpose), but of course, a line or two more if needed is acceptable (if it doesn't have that much philophy in it).Perhaps you may want to use black instead of grey. Use grey for stuff that is not so imporant for users to read, like the last paragraph for example. And for the code...Try to get rid of the 'align="center"' thing in the div if possible. Other things include marking the navigation in a list (using CSS to hide the markers of course), using margins instead of <br />.Also, I hope you have a reason to load this tab_script.js thingy from the main page, as it seems to serve no purpose right now, and yet it chokes the browser a little (the overall fact there's an HTTP connection does it).

I would suggest making the images on the right popup onclick and stay there until the user clicks again (or similar). Currently, it was confusing when the images suddenly appeared onmouseover, and I couldn't read the caption for the top image as I had to scroll down, moving my mouse out of the thumbnail.

Alright, I've taken what people have said into consideration and come up with the following. I'll address each of the issues individually.Boen Robot- The image have become slightly smaller in size so they should load a little faster. Also, I've eliminated a little bit of text, and made the text black for that matter. I've also cleaned up the code now, I think I've gotten rid of the align="center", border="0" and the <br /> tags in the document. I had forgotten that I still was loading the tab_script.js but it was replaced with the script that runs the new effect for image click for the recent work thumbnails.IamTK- I agree with your statement on overdoing the top banner. It has become much more conservative. There is considerably less unused white space at the top of the page now. I have also replaced the puzzle piece with the information icon. I hope this fits your fancy better :). I got rid of the links at the bottom too. Normally I have the navigation as a graphic on the top, and then in words at the bottom, but that was not needed as the navigation is on the side. The space at the bottom should also be eliminated. I'm looking into a blue background, but have not decided yet.Synook- The thumbnails for the recent work div are now an onclick action rather than onmouseover. I hope this works better.I could use more critiques. I hope that the changes I have made are improvements. Thanks for anybody who has commented thus far.Click Here

Good. It looks much tighter. The sentence

PERFECT! Can't think of a better one myself. In the first first sentence you describe what the company does. And if the user is still in doubt, the next sentence(s) serves as an additional ensurance. Now that's what I call good writing. In your navigation (as well as in the news) you seem to have empty li elements. I hope that's not intended as it may give bad impression (at least the navigation anyway).Just semantically speaking, isn't the #copyright part of the #footer? It should be at least.I can see many uses of the #header, but are you really going to put anything in it? If not, why not use an <img/>? If so, why not fill it up with something useful you could then align at, say the upper right corner of the header. For example, language selection (if you plan to have two languages) or perhaps less needed links like "print this page" or "bookmark us" links. The site still loads a little slow, even without me seeding torrents (heh), but it's certainly far better. If you want to make more optimizations (optionally - don't push yourself too hard, or you'll end up with a "not that pretty" site) you could use sprites (i.e. one image to hold all images and use CSS to fetch the portion you want) to reduce the number of HTTP connections, repeating images (in your case - the grey strip at the menu) as a small (few px wide and/or high) background image to reduce KBs.

This is definitely not a design suggestion as I think the design is pretty perfect already *although you could use some mouseover effect on the nav link, but that's purely suggestional and not critique*.I suggest you put the "who are we" in About Us as that makes more sense in there and What do we do in services to replace What can we do for you, as they basically mean the same thing *what you do is obviously what you can do, so why repeat it?*Replace "who are we" in home page with news and replace news with recent project or featured project. Those are just some suggestions, try them out and don't force yourself to do anything that may deter from your function.Overall, an EXCELLENT website.

I think if you just replace "Who are we" with "What is "Adhesion Arts"", it would be better then moving it to the about us page. The reason is simple - people that come for the first time will wonder what this is, and you need to answer that question pronto.

Who Are We?Adhesion Arts is a web developing company that specializes in web sites that are up to current web standards as well as cross browser compatible.TitleContact....Too bad. The more you have there the better.1. At least one telephone number.2. Mail address.3. Pictures of persons and company building. Copy of house street number.4. CEO's cv etc.5. Last but not least. Organization number in Public Register like you have to do it in Norway with .no domains. The more detailed you are here, the greater the probability that the company will grow IMO.P.S. There are thousands of very good (HTML / CSS) templates for free on the internet. Why reinvent the wheel if your design is not outstanding? There are legal articlebots, auto content publishers etc. (mainly used to fool the SE's. I would not reccomend using them. You may be banned by Google.) that may produce database content in seconds. So you can set up a site with failrly well design in a few minutes. Daily good sites with Google Pageran > 0 can be bought on eBay for a few USD's. Credibility, content, experience, and excitement are the main ingredients in getting clients to stay on a site and revisit it time after time.

One of the reason why people reinvent the wheels even if it is not outstanding is to attempt something new. What this mean is that even if it is not outstanding, it may lead to a whole branch of styles that are outstanding. For example, before Google's homepage design, websites were extremely complex with lots of links all over the place, yahoo, but after Google's homepage design, which is by no means outstanding, websites become a lot more simplistic in terms of visuals. Also, people don't use premade templates for customization purposes. Because the code are your own, you know exactly where to go and what to do to change anything. Premade templates are sometimes confusing and advises against changing anything. Lastly, creating your own page from scratch is an excellent learning tool. This is basically how I'v learned to code, from practice. You can use hundreds of templates, but you still don't know much about programming."3. Pictures of persons and company building. Copy of house street number."I don't think that's necessary. Maybe just the say what state your in and that'll do just fine
