One option is to download a 'package' such as XAMPP for Linux. Not through the Repositories, but from apache.org directly.It installs php, mysql phpmyadmin and more, all at once, fully configured to work off the shelf.

SQL has a function to export the database/table information (how it is set up/table information/records) to a text file, which can then be imported by any other SQL database, although I forget exactly what the function isif you are running phpMyAdmin, there is an option somewhere within it to do that for you (but it has also been about 6 months since I used phpMyAdmin, so... its somewhere), and I would bet most other SQL managing apps have a similar function built in
