Should i move to HTTPS from HTTP?

Hello, i'm wondering should i go to HTTPS mode on my website because its available.

 

What are the + & - of http & https?

I don't know what you mean by available but https is basically used for securing an area of the site using a SSL certificate. So if you have an area that you are going to collect information that is vitally important such as personal info, credit card, etc then you need to have it encrypted so that information is protect from potential hackers or thieves.

HTTPS:

+ User data can't be intercepted by wire tapping

- Certificates cost money and need to be renewed occasionally if I'm remembering correctly

- It's slow.

 

HTTP:

- Data can be intercepted by wire tapping

+ Faster

+ Cheaper

 

You absolutely have to use HTTPS when dealing with credit cards, bank details and probably any important information such as social service numbers and street addresses. If you don't you're putting all your users at risk.

It might be good to get some experience with HTTPS. You could offer an alternative secure login.
