I'm currently using E Text editor but have recently discovered Sublime Text 2, which once you have downloaded a few plugins has all the functionality of E but also has more communication between the developer and community which gives me hope that Sublime will be kept up to date and constantly improved. It's a little buggy at the moment but that's because it's still being developed.

I like to have Dreamweaver and Notepad++ open, and I use both, but I spend most of my time in Dreamweaver. I have to say I'm surprised that Notepad has more votes than Notepad++. I wonder why that is. I started using Aptana Studio 3 a few months ago. It has become my favorite.

I'd rather write codes with my own hands, but the thing is that I'd rather also use Microsoft Expression Web4.I've been using that lately as I didn't like Notepad++ or Notepad at all.It has helped me design and develop a client sided prototype of a website very well.

This is a very old poll and needs to be updated. For Windows, Mac and Linux my favorite text editor has to be Sublime Text 2. Its free to download and the license is $60 if you want to pay. If you don't pay you just get pop ups to purchase it every now and then. You can choose not to. I bought it because it is simply the best one for me and I wanted to support the developer. You should check out the workflow tutorial for Sublime Text on Tutsplus. It shows just how awesome and flexible it is. https://tutsplus.com...sublime-text-2/ Plus, Sublime Text has a growing community behind it so expect a lot more plugins to come with it. Also, here is Sublime Texts main page if your interested in trying it out. http://www.sublimetext.com/

Please don't rot your mind with an editor!!!! :D You learn so much more by using notepad and hand coding. You develope much stronger coding skills. Even with .Net I use Notepad at home...I only us VS.net at work because I have to. Just my opinion though.

I've started using Webstorm as alternative to Sublime Text 2. I like it so far, and am in the process of also trying out PHPStorm.
