conText does tabbed documents. I don't know of any editor that searches a whole folder but I think conText searchs all open documents...I may be wrong...justsomeguy would know, he uses conText a lot.

Yeh, I used to use FrontPage all of the time but when I started to learn HTML I thought it was much better. Now because I havn't used FrontPage for ages I can knock pretty much anything I need up a lot quicker than I can using FrontPage. You may like to ty using Notepad 2, it is much better and it is a free download, just follow the link in the POLL.

hhmm.... i just pain stakingly read thru ALL "11" pages of this topic, cause i'm looking for an editor. i use dreamweaver and love it like crazy. lol. the first one i used was actually vim on linux. then a lecturer had us use dreamweaver just a lil- and i fell in love at first sight. but looking back, i really think that it was the laziness in me and the fact that i really hated coding of any sort that got me attached to dreamweaver- cause i use to "only" use it in design view. when i look at the code view- i use to get instant headache cause everything looked like greek and hebrew :) but things have changed now. i realised i was learning nothing after a loooong time. poor me  . so, i changed my attitude towards programming and started teaching myself from scratch what i could and should have known a long time ago. :) . so, right now i ONLY use dreamweaver in code view.i think what i like best of all about dreamweaver is that if i change the name of a file- it can automatically update ALL other files that links to it. also, i can search for a particulr code or work and change it in an entire folder and even in an entire local site- folders within folders, within folders. so i dont have to punish myself to do those manually where i might make a millions mistakes.anyway- dreamweaver is giving me some problems right now- getting fatal errors. so i'm looking for a good editor that can at least do what i just mentioned! i think i'll personally try a few that i see here then eliminate. :)

I love the search/replace power of Dreamweaver. Sometimes when you have 20000 lines of code search/replace is the only option. We should do a race to see which html editor is faster in the search/replace operations!!!I also use homesite sometimes. It's validator is a lot better than DW. It seems errors DW doesn't. oh yeah and homesite is light, loads fast but search/replace functions are not that advanced as DW.

hhhmmmmm....i'm still looking.... or should that be: hunting!:( who says notepad rules? :) i thought it was me! :) oh well- i guess not. i think i'll get back to reality now:  it's not me... it's dreamweaver :):blink:

boy oh boy. html (edit:text) editors are like clothes. when u have too much clothes- u are puzzled as to what to wear to dinner. but if u had just one dress/ suit, u would have been dressed a loong time ago. :) i have downloaded and installed context, pspad and crimson. i am kinda leaning towards pspad right now. i actually installed context a few weeks ago before i even read this thread- after seeing it in justsomeguy's signature time after time. but it did not tickle me. i tried it again just now- but..... uuuhhhhh....... sorry justsomeguy! :) i'll look at a couple more tho...

by the way- for those who use pspad and crimson. in dreamweaver u can edit ur browser list and add as many actual browsers as u want to open/ test ur pages on- then choose which one u wanna use each time. is such feature on pspad and crimson? or it just uses ur default? i'm only getting my default (FF) in crimson, and pspad is giving me a pspad thing. if so, how do i do it?

It's cool. ConTEXT is not an HTML editor, it's a general programmer's text editor. So understandably it lacks a lot of langage-specific features that some people might prefer. Also, the newest version has a really annoying bug if you use the file explorer in ConTEXT, but if anyone has it installed there is a link I posted in the bug reports forum for ConTEXT with a link to the previous version.

maaan... i'm not getting much help with this thing. but anyway i tried context, crimson, pspad, nvu, notepad2. i eliminated context and nvu. i think i'll eliminate crimson. and i think i'll try out more extensively pspad and notepad2. i dont feel like downloading any other to try out- time, time, time- MY time :) but i still wanna know how to set the default or various browsers in pspad to view pages. which editor has such feature besides dreamweaver? anyone?EDIT: I just opened a project i am working on in pspad (all the pages). and i really hate how the tabs are- it's confusing i think.- and the tabls alone take up soo much space. i think it will be difficult to match dreamweaver with all of its features (and i'm not talking about the design view- strictly code view)

Have you tried coffeecup? I come from a Unix/Linux background so vi/vim are good for me. But when working and learning HTML coffeecup seems to be a good middle ground... Check it out...Get CoffeeCup Software
