In my earlier post titled marquee there was a reply that mentioned something about a <blink> tag... I do not know what this is and hearing about it kind of makes me curious as to what it does and how to use it. If you can give me a hand please give a response.. and can someone tell me if my signature is working, it should be a soccerball and my name.

well, whatever it is, IE6 doesn't support it.your signature doesn't work, but I typed the src of the images in teh address bar and niether of them are soccer balls.a police car and another car. this forum automatically transforms html code so that it all shows up.LG

yeah i forgot that i changed my signature... and it should be yellow car with a gguy waving his hand and being chased by a cop car bouncing up and down...but anyways how do i make my signature work.

ok I cant actually show what it is or it will try to show a picture.<img>http://urlofimagehere.com/imagename.gif</img>then just replace the <>'s with []'s. as for the rest of your html, use the buttons at the top of the signature editing window. I dont think it will do marquee's though.LG

Marquee won't work, because there are no BBcodes for it, and also it's not a part of the html webstandard, so it wouldn't fit into the xhtml 1.0 transitional standard of this forum.That being said, we don't allow animated images in signatures, because it is distracting and annoying, so those images won't fly. But at least you got some idea how to put images in your signature. You can use any BBcodes on this forum in your signature.And the <blink> element, well, it blinks/flashes. But it's not nice, and I believe only Netscape supports it...http://www.siteexperts.com/tips/html/ts12/page1.asp

It is a tag only supported by early versions of Netscape.If caused text to 'blink' quickly with multiple colors (red,blue,green,yellow....etc)It was very irriating!

The board doesn't support straight html in topics or replies.If you type html tags it will replace the < with & lt; and > with & gt; (take away the space between & and l and g)

yes, that'd be my comment you refer to, sir! and yeah, <blink> *made* things blink.... Firefox 1.5 actally does support the blink tag, so probably other Gecko browsers do as well. I'm not sure about Opera or IE though.try it: (in a new tab): javascript: document.write("<blink>blinky!</blink>");

Additional related features:1) When pages use the HTML blink tag, Firefox uses a 1 Hz duty cycle with the text visible for 3/4 of each cycle.2) It is possible to turn off blinking in HTML content completely in the about:config panel via setting called "browser. blink_allowed" which defaults to true but can be set to false. The about:config advanced settings can be reached by entering "about:config" in the address bar and pressing Enter.

NO! we should NOT use it! :)all Opera versions I have (5 pcs. now) blinks with it. K-Meleon 0.9 blinks and Ff 1.5.0.1 blinks.MSIE 6 is not blinking at all. CSS text-decoration: blink; doesn't work with MSIE either.So, in this time MSIE is coolest browser.

well, that's because the <blink> element was introduced by Netscape back in the browser-war, and MSIE won that war and refused to add the <blink> element into their browser.MSIE the coolest browser? I wouldn't go that far, but for once they didn't come up with the bad idea.
