kobanwa!i'm a beginner in html...and i'm trying to teach myself with this step-by-step book. the problem is, i've nearly finished it but the wbsite looks waaaaayy too plain. i want a border but it doesn't say so in the guide book. neither does it say in this website *tears starts dripping*. oh btw this html sheet i'd done is linked with a css styles sheet, in which i've no idea how to dis-relate (if that's a word) that from html as the hole website will look wrong anyway.i tried to look for a nice picture as its background, but it only allows color codes e.g. #fffffff....sumthin like that o.0 if i try to put that in html document....WAIT i didn't say i got two files did i?? well there's two files: one html and one css :blink: ANYWAYS i couldn't put the background in html version because all the stuff (e.g. borders, picture positions, font colour etc) are all referred to the styles sheet.......see i can't even explain properly! :blink: it's all so confusing.....i might as well cop-paste the work >_>----

[<html><head><title>Furuba-Kawaii!!</title><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"Href="styles.css" /></head><body><div class="intro"><h1><i>“Furuba-Kawaii!!”</i> - A Guide to Fruits Basket Characters</h1><p>Konnichiwa to all die-hard fans of Furuba!!! This is a site specially designed by Rin and Malay to illustrate our sweet darling characters from Fruits Basket................hope you enjoy our first home-made site!!! XP <i>Fruits Basket</i> is the story of a family under the Jyuunishi Curse so if anyone the opposite gender hugs them they turn into an animal according to their Jyuunishi (the Chinese Zodiac). But a girl <i>outside</i> their family comes in...and the family questions this whether she will bring chaos to them (like so many had done) - or break The Curse itself.</p></div><div class="Main Characters"><img src="yutopastel800.jpg" class="odd"alt="Honda Tohru" width="173"height="259" title="Honda Tohru" /><h2><i>#1 Honda Tohru</i></h2><p> This is Honda Tohru, whose mom died in a car crash only recently. Living in a tent Tohru soon discovers that Yuki Sohma - the Prince and Idol of her school - lives nearby! The Sohmas found her during a storm and (after her tent blew up or sumthin like that) Tohru was invited to live with them. As the family was very passionately scared of having a girl under their roof, they soon discovered Tohru's abilities of curing people's hearts, and together they lived happily ever after until <i>Atiko Sohma arrives</i> o.0 Tohru is the main character in Fruits Basket - she is gentle and caring and absolutely adorable in every way. Even a boring old freak would love her [hint]amina benyahia[/hint].</p><p class="Warmth and Friendliness"><i>~Warmth and Friendliness: 11/10</i></p> <p class="Intelligence"><i>~Intelligence: 3/10</i></p><p class="Wild 'n Crazy"><i>~Wild 'n Crazy: 0/10</i></p><p class="Dark and Mysterious"><i>~Dark and Mysterious: 3/10</i></p></div><div class="Main Characters"><img src="yuki1.jpg" class="even"alt "Yuki Sohma" width="179"height="259" title="Yuki Sohma" /><h2> <i>#2 Yuki Sohma</i></h2> <p>Yuki Sohma is a guy that <i>all</i> girls would be dying to date out with. Beautiful and gentle, he also has a side habit of <i>maybe</i> caring too much about people's feelings. He is someone that you can imagine listening to sentimental music and then cry and smile about it. However, he is not as feminine as one would have for first impression. Yuki also unleashed a deadly skill in martial arts, despite the fact that his Jyuunishi was a <b>rat</b>. Later on in the story, we also see Yuki sometimes an annoying person which is quite a laugh-out really (HA-HA!!) because he's JUST so not like that if you look at his face. Whoever borned under the Year of the Rat is said to acquire lots of talents and abilities.......so we can say our Yuki here is intelligent =D</p><p class="Warmth and Friendliness"><i>~Warmth and Friendliness: 9/10</i></p><pclass="Intelligence"><i>~Intelligence: 9.5/10</i></p><p class="Wild 'n Crazy"><i>~Wild 'n Crazy: 5/10</i></p><p class="Dark and Mysterious"><i>~Dark and Mysterious: 7/10</i></p><div class="Main Characters"><img src="kyo.jpg" class="odd"alt "Kyou Sohma" width="179"height="233" title="Kyou Sohma" /><h2> <i>#3 Kyou Sohma</i></h2> <p>Most people would probably say "No Comment" if they see Kyou. Kyou after all, is <i>not</i> counted as part of the Jyuunishi as his was a <b>cat</b> (there was never a cat in the Jyuunishi), and this is why Tohru likes Kyou very much because he's The Abandoned Cat who Lived. Kyou is a cousin of Yuki Sohma, and when he returned from his journey of "training in the mountains" the whole household (not that it was a real household since there was only three under the roof.....the real Sohma House was somewhere in a posh area) fell into catastrophe. He was also eager in beating Yuki, as it was believed that it was the Rat who tricked the Cat but he never seemed to succeed *tears starts dripping*. Kyou was someone that you wouldn't say <i>boisterous</i> but he is quick to flare up in any argument and shouts alot (but loses anyway). Despite the fact that he is not one of the Jyuunishi, the others treated him almost the same as they would to others, except a few Sohmas of course. Kyou had never liked to attract attention especially from the girls, but incidently the story itself revolves around him. But he also revealed his softer side later on in the story (that was Tohru's doing) as he enthusiastically described his dreams to her and also in the ending where we all can say that he's <i>very sweet</i> and good-natured. He is doomed right since he's borned after all... </p><p class="Warmth and Friendliness"><i>~Warmth and Friendliness: 6/10</i></p><pclass="Intelligence"><i>~Intelligence: 5/10</i></p><p class="Wild 'n Crazy"><i>~Wild 'n Crazy: 9.5/10</i></p><p class="Dark and Mysterious"><i>~Dark and Mysterious:8/10</i></p><div class="Main Characters"><img src="shi.jpg" class="even"alt "Shigure Sohma" width="179"height="258" title="Shigure Sohma" /><h2> <i>#4 Shigure Sohma</i></h2> <p></p><p class="Warmth and Friendliness"><i>~Warmth and Friendliness: 9/10</i></p><pclass="Intelligence"><i>~Intelligence: 9.5/10</i></p><p class="Wild 'n Crazy"><i>~Wild 'n Crazy: 5/10</i></p><p class="Dark and Mysterious"><i>~Dark and Mysterious: 7/10</i></p></body></html>

---that's html version. here's the styles sheet:---

body {background: #F9C8D8 ; font-family: "Arial", Arial,Helvetica, sans-serif;color: #860071}div {clear:both}div.Main Characters {padding:30px}h1, h2 {margin: 10}h2 {border-top: 2px solid #4D65A0}p {margin-top: 10; margin-bottom: 12px;font-size: 14px; line-height:1.3}img.odd  {float: left; padding-right:30px}img.even {float: right;padding-left:30px; background: #EDF2FF}

---tada!! :) i know i haven't completed it, but seeing nice borders and backgrounds will definitely encourage me to continue my html project cos typing all the info is making me in a 'fed-up' mood at the moment O.Oarigato gozaimasu to those who can help me :)edit: i hope it works;)

Oh yeah, now I remember why I hate those boxes :)they don't do wordwrap, now there are nasty horizontal scrollbars that don't do good either :)Please be patient, I'll have a request for wordwrap, in the mean time, maybe others could help you the way.

The syntax of using images as a background is url(url to the image). Example:

background: url(something.jpg);

You should actually declare all needed background properties when using the background property such as:

background: #F9C8D8 url(something.jpg);

You could also use more precise properties such as:

background-image: url(something.jpg);background-color: #F9C8D8;

as for editing the post, you don't need to. just that the codebox is irritating :blink: .the.css is the stylesheet. make sure the path to your image is correct.LG

Where's the url thing? Try something like:
body {background: url(http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/unbranded/h/unbranded-hues-of-lilac-wallpaper-10m-x-52cm.jpg); font-family: "Arial", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}

I do that sometimes, but only on anime fourms. Love the language though.
