  1. I don't think its a scaling issue as both are presented at 100%. It's very strange that Flash 14pt is a different size from Word 14pt - I just can't figure out why
  2. Hi,Does anyone know why, Flash Arial 14pt text, is smaller than Microsoft Word Arial 14(pt?) text?When you compare them side to side, Word's text is bigger? Does Word use pt size?TIADan

    reading in XML

    Hello, I'm trying to retreive information from an XML file, ie read in text displayed in an XML file. The code I'm using to read in the file is as follows:var xml_step_DocLoad:XML = new XML();xml_step_DocLoad.load("someText.xml");xml_step_DocLoad.onLoad = function(success) { var stepChildNodes=xml_step_DocLoad.childNodes[1].childNodes; };Here is the XML file:<textblock><step id="3" text="Step 1 text goes here"></step><step id="3" text="Step 2 text goes here"></step><step id="3" text="Step 3 text goes here"></step> <step id="4" text="Step 1 text goes here"></step><step id="4" text="Step 2 text goes here"></step> <step id="5" text="Step 1 text goes here"></step><step id="5" text="Step 2 text goes here"></step><step id="5" text="Step 2 text goes here"></step></textblock>What I need to do is get two bits of information, 'id' and 'text'. I can do this in JavaScript but i'm struggling with actionscript.Any ideas would be greatly received - thanksDan
  5. Is it possible for flash 8 to communicate with javascript functions in a browser using either getURL() or fscommand() locally, ie not using a web server?I used to use fscommand(), but since upgrading to flash 8, this doesn't work anymore. I will only ever use this on local machines and never publish to the web.Thanks in advancedan
  6. Yep, cheers, that works a treat - sometimes you just can't see the wood for the trees!
  7. i'm currently using the createMovieClip() function. I have dynamically created Movie Clip and loaded a file into it and it works fine. All i need to do is control the Movie Clip from a seperate button to say, stop(), gotoAndStop(), play() etc etc...The code i have used is below. I can't seem to control the Movie Clip from the button at the moment and i don't want to have to put the button function inside the loadListener (it works in there!).Any suggestions would be greatly recieved. MTIA //init variablesmovieToLoad = "Media/SWF/anim.swf";createMovieClip();step_but.onRelease=function() { trace("button pressed"); contentHolder.stop();};//CREATE MOVIE CLIP TO HOLD IMAGEfunction createMovieClip(){ var sectionHolder = "sectionHolder"; this.createEmptyMovieClip(sectionHolder, this.getNextHighestDepth()); var loadListener:Object = new Object(); loadListener.onLoadComplete = function(contentHolder:MovieClip) { trace("movie loaded"); }; var contentLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); contentLoader.addListener(loadListener); contentLoader.loadClip(movieToLoad, sectionHolder);}
  8. I have dynamically loaded an swf into another swf using the following code: var mclListener:Object = new Object(); mclListener.onLoadInit = function(target_mc:MovieClip) { target_mc._x = 220; target_mc._y = 0; rescaleMovieClipAccordingly(target_mc._x,target_mc._y,target_mc._width,target_mc._height,794,652,target_mc); }; var image_mcl:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader(); image_mcl.addListener(mclListener); image_mcl.loadClip("Media/Flash/023-Bridge.swf",1);Is there any way of controlling the loaded swf, for example, jumping to various frames via buttons on the 'parent' swf.Any help would be much appreciateddan

    Flash Stage Size

    I'm trying to create a flash .swf that covers 3072px in width (covers 3 screens at 1024px x 768px screen resolution). Flash will only let me enter a maximum of 2880px in the stage properties. Does anyone have any idea how i can get round this? Is it because i'm working on a 2 screen system and flash is interrogating my system properties to find out the resolution?Any help/ideas would be greatly recieveddan
  11. I have an activeX object in a layer on a page; is there any way of placing another layer on top of this or does the activeX always appear on the highest layer?For example the activeX object is a 3D model (layer1 z index1) and i would like overlay text labels in another layer (layer2 z index2)MTIA
  12. I'm using IIS 6 server 2003 with MySql 5. After creating a Recordset am trying to display some values from that recordset using the the code snippet below. The problem is that only First instance from the conditional statement is being displayed. After the first condition is tested for, the relevant recordset value seems to have been lost. <div id="testDiv" style="position:absolute; left:750px; top:600px; width:246px; height:38px; z-index:6; visibility: visible;"> <% if ((Recordset1.Fields.Item("Last_Name").Value)="Jones") then%>First Instance<%end if%> <% if ((Recordset1.Fields.Item("Last_Name").Value)="Jones") then%>Second Instance<%end if%> <%=(Recordset1.Fields.Item("Last_Name").Value)%> <%=(Recordset1.Fields.Item("Last_Name").Value)%></div>
  13. I am developing a piece of training courseware which shows a 'start-up' procedure involving several panels / displays, and is being produced using HTML, Javascript and Quicktime VR. This is to be run 'client-side', i.e. on a local machine, no server technology is being used. The layout consists of a HTML page with a quicktime VR movie, which has 4 hotspots. Each hotspot links to a particular panel shown on a new HTML page. For example, select hotspot "1" and jump to page "A", complete some process and return to the VR to select hotspot "2", jumping to page "B" to carry out further actions, then returning to the VR, and so on. The VR and hotspots are set up using the code below:- <script type="text/javascript">QT_WriteOBJECT_XHTML('Media/VR/SCO013VR.MOV', '600', '282', '','autoplay', 'true','align', 'middle','EnableJavaScript', 'true','controller', 'true','showlogo', 'false',//Hotspot for Hand Controller.....//'Hotspot13', '../../CTS_253_PMS_00_Sco013.6_Cde001_V01.htm',//Hotspot for Drivers Master Display.....//'Hotspot59', '../../CTS_253_PMS_00_Sco013.3_Cde001_V01.htm',//Hotspot for Central Control Panel.....//'Hotspot66', '../../CTS_253_PMS_00_Sco013.2_Cde001_V01.htm',//Hotspot for Drivers Slave Display.....//'Hotspot172', '../../CTS_253_PMS_00_Sco013.4_Cde001_V01.htm');</script>All hotspots are to be available all the time, BUT must be selected in the required order. Selection in the wrong sequence will NOT result in jumping to the relevant page, but will remain on the VR display and provide some feedback text onscreen, re. the incorrect choice of panel.My problem is that I cannot find a way to "override" the hotspot links set up in the code above. Ideally I need to intercept the selection and carry out some function to check if it is the correct selection at that particular time, hence determine if the new page should be shown, or remain on the current page and just display the feedback text.I have searched on many sites and found the following in a pdf from Apples site, which suggests that this can't be done (at least not with Javascript):-"Important: Starting with QuickTime 7.1.5, you can no longer issue java script:// URLs or call JavaScript functions from within a QuickTime movie. This feature was removed from QuickTime for security reasons."Can anyone suggest any ways around this?Cheers,Dan
