I am very new to CSS and know very basics of html. there is an existing line of html code, but it does not have background color that I can see anywhere in there? would it help to provide the html chain?

I am trying to embed a Muut forum on a website, however my web page background is too dark and it the forum does not show up very well. Is there an easy way to adjust the background color in existing code? I have tried all the CSS tutorials from W3 and have not had any luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
