  1. It would help to know the quickest way to see the results of your code.

when I am digging into learning code; or trying to write some html, css,js, I cannot get a turnaround time that works feasibly without going to this [w3schools.com] website.

I was reading about text editors and html editors from a link on this sites page, I agree with what it said mostly.

it recommends use basic stock default: "Text Edit, or NotePad programs".

The problem with that is, if I try something that I study on this site, I have a few programs that are original come with mac, pc, when I am done editing, I than have to close or save that and than open it in a browser.

The browser sometimes has different settings I always like to change to fit my needs, like cache and such. sometimes it doesn't quickly load the changes in the "HTML" and or "CSS" files. so what I do is sometimes use the Browser simulator that comes with xcode, and sometimes use my safari to inspect the changes.

The easiest thing to do though is go to the web browser and look up some basic tutorial window, at the w3schools site. look up something simple or click on it and than use the editor tutorials "examples". Than erase and or insert something that I would like to try, than I get instant results. This is a pain and i feel a bit more dependent on that.

Is there any quick ways that come stock and or are on a mac or pc that are best common ways to see the code results quickly?

I don't want 3rd party money making or other interest software involved any more than I can feasibly keep out. why would I. I am trying to learn code after all not buy things

I use the x code stuff. but I figure it has some proprietary stuff that binds up a bit when I make changes back and forth with Text edit and than x Code, and verse vice.

This is like the biggest hold back around.

If anyone has any answers I would love to hear (read/ or hear) that. thank you .

  2. I recently found W3 Schools site related to my search for information on navigation bars. What I am most interested in learning is how to build a navigation bar that matches what W3 Schools has on their own website. I especially want to learn how to build a navbar that has dropdowns that behave the like the ones they have for Tutorials and Examples. I have been unable to locate anything on their tutorials that would show me an example of how that is done. If anyone has any or could point me in the direction of where I can find some examples, I would be extremely thankful.

I like that as well, although it changes a small bit. I cannot help but feel the server is google or some very well put together, high dollar and superior setup than I can possibly put together even if I could write the page.

What I mean is if I took the link there and tried to utilize the information; I feel it still would not be as robust and or functional, correct, and other things that would indicate self doubt or other problems within my code understanding.

Is there any other strong roadblocks other than knowledge and experience to make a prominent page like the http://www.w3schools.com/ website?

I feel like this has been a pretty encouraging forum. I am not going to give up if I hear the truth is that it wouldn't work for me, like as I described. I am just wondering. Is there a lot keeping the type of page that is different than something a person and server could code together.

  3. I don't know the typical users setup for looking at pages and sites.

I was thinking though, using CSS for displaying elements that are not "needed" but are essential to your page design seems like it could be limiting; heres how.

If the bandwidth limitation of a device (bits exchanged that is known to the device owner) is too high, and the network is managed by a 3rd parties 3rd party, or something crazy. They may cut some of the css out in order to get the minimal text and basic content onto the page. I figure if you use html, the page will still maintain it's design perhaps.

example is if you have <ul> list items with images. that is something that could be cut in the transaction by a lot of things I am sure (like proprietary framework, or device sub network ).

when it comes to getting the url of an image from css it seems like you would have to about clock it perfect in order to not end at having the incorrect background image or proper display of it at all.

I don't know this but I kinda got a good solid feeling that it is better to have HTML as you would like it to appear and CSS elements that are simple tried and true.

    What do you think?

  4. What I was thinking about when I wrote that was other than css html, there must be some difference in the sites that seem really great, maybe java scripting the whole entire site and having all of the site sort of compacted and scriptable.

I thought maybe that is how 90% of the better sites on the world network are put together.

I like most pages and find that when I look at the source code and other elements of them, they are usually ASP, ASPX and use some different things than I would expect to see. when I look at first.

I think this is a highly interactive site that is very impressive

Not perfect but, if a man punched keys and made this happen, that is pretty great, Falstad? Electr/DiagramBadass interactive

If I pasted the link right.

That is cool, and some that I have seen that enable you to use Hardware and software that is on a server somewhere. like remote audio equipment .

I hope you understand, I am not sure if most pages are hosted to display scripted content. or how most sites are (as you said presentation) "presented"

  5. ....Using deprecated elements usually results in code that's harder to maintain.

Imagine you're using the <center> tag on 20 pages and tomorrow you want the text to be left-aligned. In CSS, change one rule to "text-align: left". If you want to change the <center> tag you need to go through all 20 pages and remove it.

HTML should not be used for presentation.

I underlined the part that gets my interest there and thank you all for replies,

" HTML should not be used for presentation" could you maybe,,, just go on ahead and sort of indulge me in that part.

what context, instance? I would like if you could elaborate a bit on that?

Don't want to steer your answers go ahead. I like it, but getting passed this if you can just go off on that be wordy with it I would be grateful.

  6. in my browser it has advanced option for selecting the style sheet to be used.

is there any reason you could not or wouldn't like to have your own custom style sheet that you design for basic alterations involving only the points of interest like headers or text size or so on?

I always see the option and consider what would work fairly universally in a sort of way.

Not my lives ambition but it could be helpful if it would work fairly smooth.

  7. I can only imagine that you are talking about obsolete tags such as...

    http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_center.asp

...so yes, stop using those old obsolete tags.

imagin? how so, are you human being? It seemed to convenient when I came across the center tag.

so in order to have efficient web site html script and so on and be up to date it seems that validity from the validator can basically leave no room for creativity. does that sound correct? I mean If I decided to use an element that is not typically used in such a way, does that hinder the web site in any way. I have seen some sites that could benefit from some basic editing, also seen some that are laid out "incorrectly" and yet look great and are still navigable and useful.

  8. Sometimes I see things that are not supported by HTML5 and other times there are things new to only html5.

If I am looking at a method of installing image to a page, and there is no supported by html5 I figure, that is ok because that may be new, and I know somewhere in there "plan ahead for the future" not stick with the old. but I dont know what that matters. I figure if it is a tried and true way of "HTML" than a browser is strolling along, how would the HTML version before html5 be negatively effected. perhaps there could be a link at the html5 warnings where you could click that to see the similar method that is html5. what to do here?

Not sure weather I should care about this yet. until I get the beginning "old fashion" understood better than work with new?

  9. is the overall goal to make it the most complicated means of communication, or is there a great reason to use a new difficult to understand language or "framework"? could the same (thing so as it is) be done with html + javascript or is there a need to have new different stuff.

I mean that sincearily, I would imagin the same page could be made with older style simple coding and writing. is there a gain that is easiliy discribable to using a different method like in the example of "discussion above"?

also if that is answerable, is it; what percent would you guess of the pages made use multiple types of document html, like html, html5? jQuery, Javascript, xhtml,

like do they mix and match at the same site well?

is there reasons why you would need to use multiple?

what are the base nescesities for making a site?

    any of them obsolete?

  10. Programming isn't amount memorizing syntax, it's about understanding theory. You can always look up syntax or functions or whatever, and the more you write code the more you'll remember, but if you don't understand programming theory then knowing the syntax doesn't matter. Knowing the most efficient way to solve a given problem is also a matter of experience.

I remembered what jist of the reply was and I have been kicking around "theory" while I make these feeble efforts. is there anything that you can give as a brief study of the "theory" or refer a good example' perhaps something that shapped your understanding of this.

I feel like the theory is learning numbers that go beyond 26 is a foundation. Indexing them in my mind like I did with 1>12 in numbers with clock time. "いちーにーさん" , or decimal system. but I feel like it is difficult to tell what parts are most progressive to understand

  11. It seems like I have been trying to display HTML img images and not very sure of the proper syntax.

"HOW TO MAKE IMAGE NOT A BACKGROUND IMAGE

    BUT A PHOTO FOCAL POINT"

"PROBLEM IS HOW TO PROPERLY INSERT A IMAGE. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY. AND WHERE TO ADD ATTRIBUTES OF THE FILE.",

there must be several ways some tend to overlap and Is that ok good or bad?

seems that I have to enter the style in HTML file after the img for it to take?

I have been getting mixed results over some times, It seems to me that there is many ways to do everything. there is different way to achieve images in html

I think I get confused because of css and the image-position and various selectors, like img or is it better to have it in a div element. or CSS having a URL to display the image like this |img { background-image: url=("")?

What is the best way to have elements that are active images.

** what is the most universal excepted and accurately displayed method of sizeing images??** ---≥ example (size of width="10"; or width:10; or width="10px, or width:10px; or width=10% or ? what is the always excepted method?

I keep on refferring to tutorials and refferences and I get different methods of HTML <img> and I cannot seem to get the most common and most workable what I would call the "best way to do this".

Please if you will help? thankyou

  12. You know, you seem to have all the answers, I have another question every 1/8th of a second but this one has been there for a bit more than some.

if you don't mind; I don't know what you might call this part of web design, however I see some better pages in my browser have a little 'icon' or 'logo', basically some small fairly simple picture in the address bar before the letters http, what would you call that? is it covered on the site? is it fairly simple?

I am thankful for any replies. If you can get that answered easily enough, I'd sure appreciate it.

at any rate. thanx for the info provided. first forum I have ever really received replies on and they are actually questions answers.

    Mucho' gratias

I attached a picture to help describe

  13. when trying to learn javascript I feel like there is 3 different ways to go about this.

a.) Remember by hart and soul all of the Javascript functions commands operators, so on. As I see them and use my memory to write code,

b.) Get to an understanding and Remember by hart of the syntax and basic script structure that is used and guess and use vague memories of the functions and operators and such till I get it right.

C.) Both, Loads of dedication and make a ? 9 - 5ver out of this web building stuff?

and I have the biggest problem with the parts of a script having multitude of ways to have them work for most things and i don't know at this point why I would like to make them function one way or vs. the other ?

  14. The top of my page here is absolutely impressive and nicely laid out,

However I keep on clicking my way out of the Forums page and landing in the "Http://www.w3schools.com/ " page.

It would seem to make better sense to have the link up there open w3schools page in a separate window, not change this window to target over to the homepage.

Or better have the top banner part of the page where it states "w3schools forums"-- http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/ at left could have to the right of that a new page opener link instead of the one below that points to home page" http://www.w3schools.com " which would open new window as to not lead you away from the page you are logged into (or not) this one.

to better elaborate on what code division in the source; that I am talking about. It is this below

    "<li id="nav_home" class="left"><a href="http://www.w3schools.com" title="Homepage" rel="home">W3Schools.com</a></li>

    <a href="http://www.w3schools.com" title="Homepage" rel="home">W3Schools.com</a>"

could be changed somehow to open in a different window?

If this is a difficult or impossible thing to do. or if it would not make sense please help me with understanding that if you have a min.

  15. How advance would HTML yet?

What are some of the best ways to lear

I don't know which is best method to follow understanding how the javascript and html tends to function and syntax correctly; or Remember each and every part of the "vocabulary" of the two. Or both?

  16. other languages

Is there an origin for the code of the computer that is terrestrial, is it something that just happens to be english language; as in HTML (hypertextmarkuplanguage) or whatever, or is this adapted from somewhere else.

If a web site is created in france and french person is writing the page, do they use the same words for tags?

if a chinese person is making a page, do they use the same keyboard layout and or because the character list is so extensive wouldn't that make it a bit easier to code for them like each character could equal far more 1011001010 stuff?

Is there any answers to this? other languages

I am assuming humbly that our good old boys in the states are not responsible for the complexity that is the internet and computer code language does that sound correct?

another way of asking part of that would be are code definitions euphemism for foreign and not worth dwelling on? and by who?

  18. Bootstrap sounds a bit like a finished optional program to use? also It seemed like when I first started seeing this page I have been learning from, that it is trying to "sell me" on the HTML5 as a good new and easier way to think of html code I wonder if this stuff has any merit? is it true?

Is there any particular Web and computer code language *(scripting etc,) that are universal, or more functional for a different similar type? like for example I have read that someone wrote "there personal favorite scripting is" and similar quoted.

Is there any that are not liked or favored by many, but are more sort of fundamentally necessary to and work very well, and will be around to stay?

It seems like to me HTML, is the way things are done, also interactions with internet and computers happens with javascript. As I have researched more about how it all works, It seems there are database languages that are used as well, and of course web page layout - CSS, it seems like some of these must be more of a basic foundation?

I would like to focus on the types of web coding that have stood the test of time? types of code that aren't going anywhere due to the nature of how they function is not likely to be outdated soon?

some of the questions and comments are referring to, jSON, mySql, appML, PHP, jquery, CSS, bootsrap, html5, (html5 vs. HTML or XHTML), xml,

are any of the things listed Proprietarily limited more-so than others? or do any of them duplicate function of another?

all generally speaking, I am sure there are reasons for everything. but to cut down the cluster of things to learn? which is important, and if multitudes of things are important enough to learn. which order is best?

  19. anything else? would you use javascript for no particular reason if you only intended on a paragraph showing and not being directly interactive or seen to be. I notice sometimes, I copy over text with highlight as I read, Sometimes, It mixes the color of my ordinary higlight background and other times it changes it all together. It seems like I am getting swayed to make javascript state the text I wish to insert into a page.

anything else for reasons why you might?
