  1. Is there a way to stage all untracked and modified files using Git? I cant seem to find this anywhere. I know that if you do: git . it stages the entire folder I can stage each one individually but it is kind of a pain when the files are in different folders.
  2. Is the trunk in SVN the same thing as the master branch? In Git it is called the master branch.
  3. So I'm using file_get_contents() in php to get the contents of an RSS feed and I'm parsing through it using simplexml. I got it working fine, but for some reason when I browse to the actual RSS feed in the browser, the latest item is from a few days ago on October 7th, but the latest dated item pulled from my php script is from August. Anyone have similar issues with RSS feeds not returning the latest? I'm not sure how to fix this or what is happening... Edit: Im trying to pull from a Wordpress generated RSS feed. I think it has something to do with the way they generate clean URL's. Im not s
  4. interesting. thanks. i did not know about that in CSS 3. I guess I could use the :hover pseudo class on all the anchors within #portfolio-types to make the menu visible when the user hovers over each of those links, but now that i think about it, I should probably just use JS since more people have JS enabled than the number of people with browsers that support CSS 3.
  5. interesting. I wasn't sure if there was a way to do it without having to place the list within the anchor, but maybe you have to. thanks! what does the ~ mean in CSS? Ive never seen that.
  6. You'd probalby want to create an HTML form with form elements such as name, address, and message. Then you can generate the HTML on the server using PHP once you submit the form.
  7. I've heard of people using the hover pseudo class to toggle the visibility of things such as in drop down menus in navigations, rather than using JS. I'm trying to learn that but im not quite sure how. Here is my HTML. I want to hover over the anchor Portfolio and toggle the display of the ul right below it. <a href="">Portfolio</a><ul class="portfolio-types" id="portfolio-types"> <li><a href="">Shorts</a></li> <li><a href="">Music Videos</a></li> <li><a href="">Commercials</a></li> &
  8. I've created a regular expression using a positive lookbehind and I've tested it on this RE test site: http://gskinner.com/RegExr/ It's valid and it works, but when I try and create a regexp object in JS using that same expression, I get an error. var re = /(?<=beans.\sTotal\s=\s)[0-9]*/g; Chrome Console Error: Uncaught SyntaxError: Invalid regular expression: /(?<=beans.\sTotal\s=\s)[0-9]*/: Invalid groupJS Bin Error: Line 1: var re = /(?<=beans.\sTotal\s=\s)[0-9]*/g; --- Expected ':' and instead saw '<'.
  9. well in my case, i am using anchor tags instead, and it presents the same problem because anchors are also inline elements, so I wanted to know why.
  10. If I want to create a blue box on a page using a span, how come I have to declare it as a block element using display:block, rather than just assigning it a width and height? I.e. span { width:100px; height:100px; background-color:blue; display:block; } instead of span { width:100px; height:100px; background-color:blue; }
  11. you need to trigger those functions somehow, either by calling them from an inline event handler or by attaching those functions to elements as a listener
  12. turns out this is just a mac thing....
  13. check out this demo page:http://jsbin.com/iheloq/edit#javascript,html If you zoom in using on mac (apple +) or on pc (control +), you eventually see the red background of the container div show on the right hand side even though the width of the 2 child div's = the width of the parent div, so it shouldnt show through. Any idea why? My only guess is that browser's are not perfect and when you zoom in that much, it doesn't have that much preciseness.
  14. After reading more of the comments on Nettuts, it seems like IE's box model isn't the standard, with a doctype. You sure about that Ingolme?http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/quick-tip-did-internet-explorer-get-the-box-model-right/ I'm definitely going to try this tomorrow when I have access to a PC.
  15. What do you mean a proper doctype? Would you consider the HTML 5 doctype as proper?
  16. According to an article on Nettus, they say that IE implements the box model where if you specify the width of an element and apply padding and a border, the total width will equal the value specified for width and IE will factor in the padding and borders. So, (content area + borders + padding = width).http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/quick-tip-did-internet-explorer-get-the-box-model-right/ However, on W3 Schools, it says that IE only does this when you don't declare the DOCTYPE.http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_boxmodel.asp Which one is it? I dont have easy access to IE b
  17. on the table give it a width and apply the auto value to the margin, like this: table { width:800px;margin:0 auto;} i dont think this works in IE though, so what you could also do is wrap the table in a div, give the table a width, and do a text-align:center; on the div.
  18. and so a resource is something that generates a representation, like a php script generating XML or JSON?
  19. I've been reading about REST web services to get a better idea of the theory, and I was wondering about some of the terminology. In this article (http://www.packetizer.com/ws/rest.html), they talk about resources and representations. From my understanding, it sounds like 'representation' is used to mean the way the data is given to the requester (an application or a user), be it XML, JSON, or plain text. Would you agree?
  20. true, i probably should have looked at his post count before addressing him. Even though there aren't experts yet, I'm sure people will come. Having a forum titled Flash seems kind of pointless, especially since Flash alone seems to be dying. However, I think it may be more useful to broaden the category to include rich internet applications (Flex and Actionscript).
  21. who cares if it's a few months old? the topic is still relevant and i wanted to suggest that w3schools put a forum topic for actionscript, but i didnt want to start a new topic if one existed.
  22. Ofir, I suggest you look at a basic object oriented programming tutorial. If you can find one for C#, that'd be really useful. Otherwise, one in Java would be useful because Java and C# are quite similar in syntax. Lately I have been working on a project using the Flex framework and ActionScript 3. Although it might be difficult to have a full on tutorial on Actionscript 3, I think it'd be useful to at least dedicate a forum for deploying ActionScript based apps. I've had quite a few questions while using Actionscript 3, since its a mix between JS and a traditional OO language like Java, and i
  23. i dont think a new forum would be well suited for this topic. this is pretty specific and you can get plenty of info on the web. here is one good article that covers plenty: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/html-css-techniques/getting-started-with-html-emails/
  24. also, an ID isn't an attribute. it is an HTML element property. http://www.w3schools.com/jsref/dom_obj_all.asp i believe you should be doing this to set the ID: div.id = 'txtHint';
