    The use of '#'

Great answers. Hopefully some time coming up I'll be able to answer some questions on this forum instead of asking so many of them. Thank you all.

    The use of '#'

I read a book on CSS not too long ago and I always thought that the use of '#' in CSS titles were meant as a reference to an ID. This case of the use of '#' looks so different to me I feel like I must ask a question to clarify the code. div#menu {background:#EEE;height:1.5em;margin:1em 0;width:100%;} Thank you!

    Hit Counting.

I have seen code out there for basic hit counters that simply log each hit into a text file. What I want to do is take things a step further and block hits that come from my so that I don't pollute my data. I'm really not quite sure how to accomplish something like this. Any ideas?
  4. I have seen a lot of discussion about this topic and a lot of different solutions. Is there a good cross browser compatible way to get the space above and below the <div> to be 0px?Thank you!
  5. I am looking for an open source comment system that I can add to my site. I do not want something that requires a username and password at this point. I just want a basic comment system mainly for demo purposes. I can write one myself but that is going to cost me time that I don't have. Any suggestions?
  6. It would really help out if that were a ';' not a ':'. Lol... stupid me.
  7. As is the usual case with CSS it does not work for me on the first attempt or the second or the third and sometimes not even on the 50'th but I think I will eventually figure it out. Black border around my <div> I know it is possible I have even done it before. Thanks for any help. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-loose.dtd"><html><head><title>Drupal Home</title><style>body {width: 1002px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;border-style: solid;border-color: black;border-width: 1px;b
  8. That was a great response. The key for me was the use of for me was to also to add 'display: table-cell' which I added to the style for the <div> that contains the <img>. Thanks a bunch!
  9. Thank all of you so much for your past help. I know I must be on the tail end of figuring all this out. My problem is as stated in the subject line "vertical-align: middle; having no effect at all on my <DIV>". Again I apologize for having to ask so many questions but this journey through CSS has been more maddening than almost anything I have experienced. The area of concern in the code is at the image with the source attribute that contains "mainguy.jpg". I want "mainguy.jpg" to be aligned vertically and have not been able to accomplish that at all yet. I had to resort to using a few &
  10. I am trying to create a fixed height <DIV> that works in FireFox. I am pasting my last attempt as every attempt I have made has failed miserably I decided to go ahead and post yet another question. I apologize. I'm just trying to get some work done. I'm trying to fix it vertically. <style> body { background-image: url(/imgindex/background.png); width: 1002px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-style: solid; border-color: black; border-width: 1px; } th { overflow: hidden; } td { overflow: hidden; }</style><table align="center" width="1000px"
  11. For some reason the last table does not line up with those above it although I feel like it should. I am copy pasting this framework which really outlines things well I think. I'm trying to figure out why the last table seems to be coming up short: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-loose.dtd"><html><head><title>Dating Guru</title><style> body { background-image: url(/imgindex/background.png); width: 1000px; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-style: solid; border-color: black;

    Tables revisited.

Nevermind! It would probably help if I would have specified a height!

    Tables revisited.

So after many postings to this forum about tables of a fixed size I have come up with this. It does work for text. It does NOT work if I add things like specifically a <textarea> which will take it upon itself to resize everything and run all over my fixed width table AS IF IT DID NOT EXIST!!!!!!! (out of breath). Is there some other style sheet type of thing that I can add to make the table more fixed and less stretchable?Thank you. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-loose.dtd"><html><head><title>
  14. For some reason this purple border is showing up on the images in question. I think it may have something to do with the fact that they are in <a>'s. Thank you guys for all your great help. Hopefully I will be knowledgeable enough to stop asking so many question real soon. Below is the code: <td bgcolor="#EEF6FA" width="1000" height="78"><a href=""><img class="img_nospaceing" src="news.png"></a><a href=""><img src="archives.png"></a><a href=""><img src="viewervids.png"></a><a href=""><img src="community.png"></a&
  15. I need a table of a fixed size. I notice that many times when I use table-layout: fixed; that the table will STILL resize itself if the contents I put in the table are larger than the table is set to. What I want is a table of an ACTUAL FIXED SIZE. Meaning it NEVER changes and the contents the spill over the edges should be hidden. My browser is FireFox4. Does anyone know how to do this. I'm being driven mad by all this styling stuff that is very difficult to work with.Thank you!
  16. All were great responses. Thank you all for such wonderful help.
  17. I have an image that needs to bottom aligned inside a TD with zero padding. I can't seem to get it to work right. For some reason a specify bottom align and no padding but I always seem to end up with padding no matter if I want it or not. Has anyone dealt with something like this before?Thank you.

    Centering a table.

For some reason my table is offset too far to the left. It is not on center, nor is it left or right justified. This is very perplexing to because as you will see I have done everything I know how to do to make sure all the right things have been done to center everything properly. Attached is the code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-loose.dtd"><html><head><title>The home page of SepsServer.</title><style> body { width: 80%; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; }</style><meta
  19. I have checked that the image specified does exist in that location and I am able to view it at that location in Mozilla FireFox. The image will not show up on my button. I am trying to determine the reason why this may be happening. .submit { background-image: url('/img/bookiconsmall.png'); background-color: #FFF; width: 50px; height: 50px; text-indent: -999em; border: none; } <form class="Bookme" action="/php/bookme.php" method="post"/> Name:<br> <input type="text" width="200px" height="25px" name="name"/><br> Email:<br> <input type="te
  20. If anyone knows how to get one of these columns to actually change its actual width the way you tell it to I'd love to hear about it. <tr><td style="width:400px"; overflow:auto;><div style="word-wrap: normal;">North Carolina at Boston College</div></td><td align="left" style="width:100px;"><div style="word-wrap: normal; width: 100px;">6:00PM</div></td><td align="left" style="width:300px;" overflow:auto;><div style="word-wrap: break-word;">723,</div></td></tr>
  21. The use of a div tag is key:<div style="word-wrap: break-word;">367,</div>
  22. Why is it that my text will not wrap to the next line in my channels column. I really need to get this fixed. Thank you.
  23. Let's say that I specify a fixed width cell like this:<table width="1100" border="2"><tr><td>TitleHere</td><td>AirTime</td><td width="100%">Channels here: 100, 200, 300</td></tr></table>Here is what is happening. Sometimes my list of channels is so long that the size of my table will somehow automatically become much wider than I want it to be. The channels cell never goes to a new line like I would want it to. I thought if I specified a width for my table that it would stay at that width but that does not seem to be the case. Can som
  24. In my phpinfo.php I see the following is listed:include_path .:/var/www/html/which I have verified to be correct. My file resides in /var/www/html/superfish.htm. I have turned on error reporting to the best of my ability in php.ini. I have also used the functions 'include("superfish.htm");, 'require("superfish.htm");,readfile("superfish.htm"). None of them have worked. None of them will include my file. Further... there are no error messages for me to look at. No PHP errors seem to be generated. What can be done? This task is so simple, I just want to take all the crap in one file and dump it
  25. I have to say this is really rude of this table to ignore my width like it does not even exist like this. Is there something I need to change in the code? Thanks! <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /><title>dailysportsguide.com</title></head><body><p>dailysportsguide.com - Your personal daily sports resource. </br><p>20110116 9
