  1. that monkey is juggling $hit for a reason . . .but i don't see it being a browser issue - after all you are using Internet Explorer. I think it might be your system tray icons . . .
  2. great find - thanks for sharing...
  3. as long as there is only one URL string parameter and you always call it page - then yes, that will work. It seems a little bit of a restrictive solution but it heads in the right direction.
  4. Check the top of this conversation category:Javascript Snippetshttp://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=9500
  5. justsomeguy refers to this:clicky clicky
  6. No problem, let me know if there is anything you find that you would like some clarification on.
  7. Be careful of web based "free" bulk engine submitting tools. They can create ALOT of spam. I've always preferred doing the 5 or 6 major search engines my self and then find other industry related ones and manually submitting there as well. But I think he is more after what he can physically do to his site/pages, etc. Submitting to search engines is almost irrelevant if all the other stuff is done correctly.and monty 187, I hope you didn't take my reply as a mere advertisement for a service I could provide. The link I mentioned has the majority of things you can find after an exhaustive search on SEO Secrets. In your research you will find a wide variety of perspectives and you have to keep your business and its target audience in mind all the time. Its too easy to read all the stuff on SEO and end up implementing a global strategy when your business is only able to service a much smaller territory.Given the first glance at your site, it doesn't seem that you are a global property management provider. So it may only be worth making subtle modifications to your code and focus more on integrating local conventional marketing with your online pressence. On the other hand, you may know or learn that a majority of your clients or prospects spend alot of time online searching for the services you provide - then your approach is going to focus more on getting your code and content to be more search engine friendly. In any respect, you'll consistent advise that explains the importance of <title>, <h1>, <h2>, <img>, and <a> tags. You need to stay away from javascript navigation unless its backed-up in the footer of a page like this (http://www.abercrombiekent.com). Avoid hidden text or divs that are controlled by javascript unless the content is not something you are worried about search engines finding. Those are the basics, but (as I've mentioned) there is so much more involved if you care to dive in that deep.Hope this helps, but let me know if you have any questions.
  8. I couldn't find a comfortable answer.I learn this stuff better online but prefer to have books to qualify my continuing education and to use as a fundemental reference. Web tutorials typically (with some exceptions) teach by example. And that often is faster and more appealing. But it by-passes the fundamentals. If anyone has ever taken a foreign language in high school (which as far as I know is a requirement these days) then you can relate to spending days conjugating verbs - je vais, tu vas, il,elle, on va - something you would have never done so explicitly with your native language (i.e. English). Hence, the reason there is so much improper use of the English language. So, I learn (this stuff) better through online examples, but I ALWAYS refer back to a text to understand WHY what I just learned works.P.S. What is Tafi/Uni?
  9. There are so many factors that affect your placement in search engines. Just last night, I finished a SEO Strategy (almost 2 pages) for a client. If you would like one done for your site, send me a PM and I'll give you a quote. Google, actually, doesn't place as much emphasis on <meta> tags like yahoo, msn or overture partners. But there are several other things internal to your site and external to your site that could be done - its a matter of how much time you are willing to put into it.I'll even throw in an old Irish discount for ya since I have in-laws a little ways north of ya(Kildare).re: http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.ph...ost&p=42834
  10. if this is a web application and not a web site or otherwise search engine placement has no relevance, then ignore this comment - your code will be invisible to search engines.
  11. All I gotta say is that this is a free forum and to be complaining about any way the owners are using to try and keep it that way is just wrong. No one has control of the Google ads except the people who created them in the first place. Of course, you could have a talk with Google and ask them to put more restrictions on submitted banner ads - good luck. It is what it is so get used to it. This is a pointless conversation and should really end right here! But I'm not gonna play god and close it, but any other moderator who feels the same can go right ahead.Sorry for sounding a little abrasive, but this is free and you're complaining about the only source of revenue the owners can count on.Now if you were suggesting a way to make the ads more appealing, THAT would be different. But you are trying to find a way to make them blend in more so they are not so visible . . . .P.S. And its a banner ad - ONE banner ad. Its not like there are tower ads aligned down the left and right side of all the pages. We've all been to sites like that. I guess, the site is just that good if this is all there is to complain about.
  12. add ColdFusion to the list (please)
  13. sweet - I know there are good reasons for using javascript for form submission (client side validation) but with the last site I took over I had tons of these issues. Just another place to track a problem that you don't think of first. This is why I use CFMX7 Flash Forms when possible.:)Glad you found the error, and resolved it.
  14. for an interesting, somewhat controversial side bar discussion, you might interested in this post:http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=11917
  15. I missed Jonas' post while I was typing mine (and likely doing other things). Is there any reason why the reference he gives is not sufficient for this request?re: http://w3schools.invisionzone.com/index.ph...c=3074&st=0
  16. Sorry its been a week since your post.have you resolved the issue?have you tried use the "get" method and using url.kwords versus form.kwords?Otherwise, I am not sure I complete understand the issue. Is header_e.cfm an include file throughout your site like on main_e.cfm?
  17. lol - I noticed and I was entertained.
  18. I believe this has come up in the past and it was initially tabled. I don't think we (as moderators) were completely opposed to it - I don't mind sharing my perspective. I've, admittedly, gotten sucked into conversations here or there where I've rather blatant and maybe insensitive when giving criticism. I'd worry that without any format for feedback that it could turn into a cesspool unsubstantiated opinions. Its too easy for people to find what is wrong with something and just leave it at that. The only benefit to creating the concept suggested is if it was sure to give constructive criticism since that would be the intend. I worry that policing it would be difficult and vulnerable to bias. The main underlying issue is that with any one design, there are easily 100 ways it could be coded which means there is always going to be something to say about anything that is posted - I'm not sure how helpful that can be in the long run. But I'm more than open to hearing other perspective and I am (of course) not the deal breaker on this at all - I just want to challenge us to think it through.
  19. I always preferred phpBB. I like the new interface. The old standard silver blue was ok but was a tad on the bland side. That's not a bad thing, just wasn't enough to add to the experience of using the application. In any respect, I'm sure I'll have a job pretty soon where I'll end up using it.
  20. Sorry, that was the link I meant to post - thanks STE
  21. well, no one was asking for help on the design or layout the original post's author was intrigued with the online/offline icon that is supposed to represent the status of the site owner. When someone says, "I went on this site and I found this really cool thing" I think it is safe to assume that the site has a possibility of be cool. Sharing one's experience once being drawn there is perfectly natural. I can't speak for the rest, by my comments were not meant to be helpful as my help was not solicited - but I was compelled to share my disappointment having been drawn to the site - even though it was just for a button effect.BTW, the button effect is nothing special. You can either go through the laborious task of:a.) replacing/renaming the image each time you decide to spend time on lineb.) edit the code that calls a different image each time you decide to spend time on lineor you can simply program a script that when called toggles the code or image. Then set that as your default web page when you open your browser and you're set.Anyway . . . .

    RSS XML Feed

I'll try to address your questions but I admit to being a little confused about what exactly you are asking - this could because you might not fully understand XML. So here it goes . . .XML is sort of like a database in that all it does is store information. The XML part of it is the concept that a tag defines information. <table><record><firstname>xxxxx</firstname><lastname>xxxxx</lastname><emailaddress>xxxxx</emailaddress></record><record><firstname>xxxxx</firstname><lastname>xxxxx</lastname><emailaddress>xxxxx</emailaddress></record></table> If this was your XML and you saved it as database.xml then you should get an idea about how they are similar.XML is not functional, all it does is lay things out - organizes it. You have to use HTML, or XSL, or a server side scripting language to extract information and/or present it on a web page.As for searching, yes it is indeed possible to search through an XML document and return the information you find, but it is more involved and more complicated than querying a database. The difference between a database and XML is SQL - XML has no clue what that is and a database does which is why you can use it to returned structured results. So, aside from the fact that you should NEVER really use MS Access as a web related DB, the two are exclusive. So you would never ask whether you should use on or the other. Ideally, you would store information you want to share with the world in a database and you would have an administration tool built to maintain that data. Then you would use a server side scripting language like phps, asp, or coldfusion to query the data from the database and create the XML from that. Then the XML would be available to the world fromt he URL to the page that creates it.I doubt this completely addresses your concerns, but maybe it is information that will help you restate your needs. So if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
  23. Try using this software - its FREE and I understand it to be very similar to Photoshop.
