  2. Hi, I am still a rookie when it comes to HTML and would like to create a form that has a single input field. I would like it to show a password field but whatever you type in it would add the html file extension to it and take you to that page. Example, Say you type monkey then click submit. It would take you to monkey.html which is a webpage within my website. Please help... I keep trying stuff and I am getting more confused the more I try it. Thank you Jesse
  3. Hello all, pretty new here (and to web design, in truth) I have been toying around with Dreamweaver the past 3 weeks or so trying to redesign my company's web page and one of the elements I was adding to the page is a carousel for showing off some things. I have the carousel working properly and things are great, but there are a few things I want to try and learn how to do in order to make the page look fresh and appealing. Here is an example of what my bootstrap resembles for this topic. Pay attention to only the carousel at the top. https://getbootstrap.com/examples/carousel/ So I am trying to find out a few different styling things with the carousel. First off, on the sides of where the image would be (centered) there are areas of dark gray with arrow glyph icons indicating the direction the user can make the carousel rotate. I found a way to remove the background coloring and make the carousel "white" however I would prefer to remove those areas altogether. I would also like to push the arrow keys into the actual carousel on top of the images (maybe in a corner out of the way) I want to change what the image indicators look like on the bottom of the carousel. Currently, as in the example, the indicators are small circles that change color when a particular image pane is active. Is there a way to design icons to replace those, perhaps a line that brightens when the selection is active? For example, in the 3 slide referenced above, instead of 3 circles, the indicators are dashes that, when a current active slide is up in the carousel, the dash indicator brightens or is highlighted. The last thing I want to do is make a translucent/transparent box covering half or third of the image in the center (on a side) with text. The issue I am having is trying to get the text in a transparent/translucent box preferably one that does not change when the carousel rotates.
  4. Hello. I am having an issue with my website populating an XML table. The XML table is located in the root folder and is called song_catalog.xml The webpage that has the XML table on it has the following code. It used to populate just fine then all of a sudden it stopped. I tried to fix it and could not. I have no idea what is going on. Any help is appreciated. The following is the html code from the webpage, then the XML data (or rather a portion of the data since it is a huge file, well 800kb huge) . <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/sitetemplate.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" --> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="doctitle" --> <title>Big Mic Productions</title> <script src="js/songscript.js"></script> <style type="text/css"> <!-- .catalog_genre_head {background-color:darkGray;font-size:24pt;color:white;font-family:Impact;} .catalog_head {background-color:gray;font-size:18pt;color:white;font-family:Impact;} .catalog_row0 {background-color:lightGray;} .catalog_row1 {background-color:white;} .catalog_row_end {background-color:darkGray;} --> </style> <!-- InstanceEndEditable --> <!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" --> <!-- InstanceEndEditable --> <!--[if lte IE 7]> <style> .content { margin-right: -1px; } /* this 1px negative margin can be placed on any of the columns in this layout with the same corrective effect. */ ul.nav a { zoom: 1; } /* the zoom property gives IE the hasLayout trigger it needs to correct extra whiltespace between the links */ </style> <![endif]--> <script src="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <link href="css/sitestyle.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <style type="text/css"> body { background-image: url(images/dj-background3.jpg); margin-left: 30px; margin-top: 50px; margin-right: 30px; margin-bottom: 50px; } </style> </head> <body> fa <div class="container"> <div class="header" > <center> <img src="images/logo3.png" /> </center> </div> <div class="header" align="right"> <form id="form1" name="form1" method="get" action= "http://www.google.com/search"> <INPUT TYPE="hidden" name="sitesearch" value="http://bigmicproductions.net/"> <p><label for="q"> <b>Search Site</b></label> <input type="text" name="q" id="q" /> <input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit"/></p> </form> </div> <div class="sidebar1"> <a href="songlist2.html"><img src="images/logo 4.png" width="199" height="207" /></a> <p></p> <p></p> <p>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~</p> <p><b>SONG SEARCH:</b> What do you want to hear at your next party? 5. Hi i am new for the PHP, i had the experienced before to do a login system page but what i want it is HTML and PHP file to separate i dont want PHP with HTML together to 1 file , cause professional people will more likely to use 2 file rather than 1 file easy to maintain and edit how to use the external PHP file coding without re-design whole page cause normally what i tested before was link or turn to other new page and result will come out but the design was totally gone so have any ways and suggestion to do that ... in the end, im sorry i not well in english and my knowledge of PHP still quite new , thanks you so much
  6. Hi, I have a (simple) website and I have a 'contact me' page where its a basic form, name / email address / comments. and the necessary validation using JS. I have done all this on Notepad++. The site (I think) looks good, and is responsive. But now I want to be able to process the form, where I get the form content emailed to myself. Is PHP the way to go? Do I really need a server? I have tried google search, watched multiple videos but I dont know if I need to download eclipse with the PHP plug in / XAMPP? Is this overkill for a form with 3 fields? Totally confused! Any help appreciated.

  12. Hello, I am currently in the middle of creating a web comic aggregation website. So far, I have written a PHP-based RSS reader that grabs the image source links and publication dates for various web comics from their RSS feeds, and uses this to update a MySQL database. This RSS reader/database updater is configured to run once every several hours and update the database with any new comics it finds. It seems to be working fine, and now I am starting to work on the front end of the website, which needs to grab this information from the ever-growing database, and display it in a user-friendly and interactive format. I wrote the database updater in a fairly procedural way, because it didn't strike me as something that lent itself very much to object-oriented development. However, the front end of the website does strike me as something that I can save myself a lot of time on by coming up with a decent object oriented design first. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience in this, so I thought I would look online for suggestions. So far, I have decided specifically what I would like the front end to do, and have come up with 2 possible approaches to designing it, but am unsure about both. Here's what I would like it to do: (To clarify, when I say the phrase "comic strip," I'm referring to a whole strip like XKCD, Dilbert, the far side, etc., and when I say the phrase "comic," it refers to an individual comic within a comic strip, i.e. the Dilbert comic for 8/30/2016). I would like my webpage, by default, to display a vertically stacked list of the latest comic images from each comic strip in the database. For customization, I want a comic strip control panel, which allows users to decide which comic strips are enabled/disabled, and in what order they are displayed. I would like each comic image to appear between text denoting the name/author of the strip and an individual set of buttons that allows the user to go forward and backward through the archived comics, and also to adjust the size/scaling of the image. Finally, I would like a similar but generalized set of buttons that allows the user to control all the comic strips in the same fashion, but at once. Based on my basic understanding of object oriented programming, and the design approach suggested in this stack overflow answer: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1100819/how-do-you-design-object-oriented-projects, I came up with one possible design: Two classes: 1) a comic strip class that contains attributes like the comic strip's name, ID number (from my database), enabled/disabled status, and current comic to display (an object of the next class), in addition to functions to get and set each of these variables, 2) a comic class that contains attributes like the image source link, publication date, and scaling percentage, in addition to functions to get and set each of these variables Then the main webpage would contain a comic strip control panel and general comic control panel as described in the desired functionality. In addition, it would contain an array of individual comic control panels, and an array of div tags (or a similar tag), which would be displayed vertically stacked and alternating along with the comic strip names in plain text. Finally, there would be functions for updating comic and comic strip object information from the database, and functions for updating the div tag content for comic display based on the comic object information. All the functions would be called using JavaScript/Ajax from the appropriate buttons. However, I was unsure about this design, so I asked a friend, who suggested that I use a model-view-controller design pattern, which I guess is popular in web development because its potential for separating all the various languages. After reading about this online, I have come up with a possible alternative design: Model: PHP, an array of comic strips, including name and ID number, active/inactive status, and current comic image URL/publishing date View: PHP generated HTML/CSS, as described before, a comic strip control panel for enabling/disabling and ordering, a vertically stacked list of comic strip names, constituent comic images, and individual control buttons, and a general set of buttons for controlling all enabled comics at once Controller: PHP/MySQL, a function to update order and active/inactive comic strip status, a function to update a given comic strip's current comic information, and a function to update all comic strips' current comic information at once As I understand it, the controller functions would be called upon user input into the view (clicking the buttons), which would then update the information stored in the model, and then somehow that would trigger a refresh of the view based on the new model information. I am worried I may have missed something in each of these designs (especially the first one), and unsure about the potential merits of one versus another. I was also wondering if it might be possible to combine the two somehow. Does anyone have any suggestions? Help would be much appreciated
  13. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with and could help me with my coding? I'm fairly new to coding layouts and would like a few tips. I understand it would be easier to not use tables, but this is what I find easier to work with as I'm comfortable with the coding as it is. My issue is trying to change the color/width on scrollboxes. I tried using a certain coding, but it did not work at all and simple left my scrollbox the same; white and gray. I saw someone else who also uses tables and this type of coding make their scrolboxes different using similar coding but I still can't figure out why it wasn't working with mine. My layout: My coding: http://pastebin.com/tH8dve2G Layout with similar coding: http://i47.tinypic.com/30mx0xy.jpg If anyone is familiar with this type of coding and could help/tell me what I need to change or how I can get the scrolboxes to match my layout like the one I found, I would greatly appreciate it. Any tips would be great. Please don't tell me to switch to coding without the tables, that isn't very helpful. Thanks.

  19. I am trying to create a web comic aggregation website in which users can view a variety of different web comics all on one website in a user-friendly format. I am currently trying to decide on the best way to pull comics from other people's websites (if I can get this website to work, I eventually plan on paying for content, but right now I'm just trying to see if I can get it to work in the easiest way possible). After some research, it seems like I could either try to parse built-in RSS feeds which most of these websites include (but which vary from website to website and may not include all the content I want), or I can try to use some kind of web scraper. Specifically, I would like to be able to access every comic on a given website in an automated fashion (I would like users to be able to view comics by date). What are the advantages and disadvantages of using an RSS feed as opposed to a web scraper? Is there another possible approach that I have missed? Also, from other questions, people have suggested to me that I use jFeed, an extension to jQuery, to parse RSS feeds if I decide to go this route. However, I am a little bit confused as to the possible implementation of a web scraper. Currently, I am attempting to write the website in HTML 5, CSS 3, and JavaScript. Would I need to use a server-side scripting language in order to do a web scraper? And if so, how would that language interact with the HTML and other code? Or would it replace it entirely? Help would be much appreciated

    Email html

    Hi Guys, I have a slight problem with some of my code. I have a series of tables running down a page with each table containing different data. All looks fine when I look at it as a HTML page but when I use it as an Email 2/3 elements move for some reason, is there a way I can make sure these elements won't move? The code is in the backend of a program I use and gets called as Emails are generated for different subjects. Thanks in advance, Craig.
  21. I was reading the tutorial for creating an accordion here: http://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_accordion.asp Does anyone know how I could add this accordion or something similar to the mobile view of a responsive menu. I want to add it only when there is a 'submenu'. The code I currently have is (index.html): <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Resposive Multi Level Horizontal Nav?</title> <!--nav styles--> <style> .show { display: block; } nav { width: 100%; float: left; font-family: 'Oswald', sans-serif; font-size: 100%; color: #252525; border-bottom: 4px solid #0069d4; border-top: 4px solid #0069d4; background-color: #fff; } ul { list-style: none; margin: 0; padding: 0; } li { display: inline-block; position: relative; } a { text-decoration: none; color: #fff; } li a { height: 60px; line-height: 60px; background-color: #fff; width: 120px; text-align: center; color: #252525; display: block; } li a:hover { background-color: #0069d4; color: #fff; -webkit-transition-duration: 0.3s; transition-duration: 0.3s; } /* submenu desktop */ ul.submenu { position:absolute; top:100%; display:none; } ul.submenu li { display:block; } ul.submenu li a { display:block; float:none; font-size: 100%; line-height:40px; height:auto; } ul li:hover ul.submenu { display:block; } /* open close mobile nav*/ #i-nav { display: none; float: right; padding: 20px 20px; } .expand_sub { display: none; float: right; } @media (max-width: 1024px) { nav { width: 100%; padding: 0; margin: 0; } ul li { display:block; } ul { width: 100%; display: none; } li a { width: 100%; text-align: center; float: left; } #i-nav { display: block; } .expand_sub { display: block; } ul.submenu { position:relative; top:0%; display:block; } ul.submenu li { display:block; } ul.submenu li a { width: 100%; float: left; } } </style> <!--google fonts--> <link href='https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Oswald:400,700,300' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'> <link href='https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Droid+Sans:400,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'> <!--font awesome--> <link href="font-awesome/css/font-awesome.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <nav> <div><a id="i-nav" href="#"><i class="fa fa-bars fa-2x" aria-hidden="true" style="color:#0069d4;"></i></a></div> <ul id="menu"> <li><a href="#">HOMEPAGE</a><li> <li><a href="#">PROGRAMS</a> <ul class="submenu"> <li><a href="#">Program 1</a></li> <li><a href="#">Program 2</a></li> <li><a href="#">Program 3</a></li> </ul> </li> <li><a href="#">MEMBERSHIP</a><li> <li><a href="#">NEWS</a><li> <li><a href="#">GALLERY</a><li> <li><a href="#">CONTACT</a><li> </ul> </nav> <!-- jquery --> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.0.0/jquery.min.js"></script> <!-- script to toggle mobile menu --> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#i-nav').click(function(){ $('#menu').toggleClass('show'); }); }); </script> </body> </html>
  22. I'm building a simple according from a w3 guide and I can't seem to get it to work on my wordpress website. Guide: http://www.w3schools.com/howto/tryit.asp?filename=tryhow_js_accordion_symbol I continue to get this error: (index):474 Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'classList' of nullacc.(anonymous function).onclick @ (index):474 var acc = document.getElementsByClassName("accordion"); var i; for (i = 0; i < acc.length; i++) { acc[i].onclick = function () { this.classList.toggle("active"); this.nextElementSibling.classList.toggle("show"); } } I'm just learning javascript so I'm new to this but I can't see what is wrong with this code. Active works just fine but the stuff highlighted in red keeps giving me errors and nothing drops down.
  23. Hello,I am trying to create a web comic aggregation website using HTML 5, CSS 3, and JavaScript. I would like users to be able to view comics of different dates from different websites all in one place. After some research, it seems like I'm probably going to need to use an RSS feed to accomplish this. However, I don't fully understand the capabilities and usage of an RSS feed. First, would it be possible to pull images from comic websites in an automated and orderly fashion using an RSS feed? Or would I need to use something else? Or would it not be possible at all? If it is possible with an RSS feed, I'm also confused somewhat about the general implementation. Would the code for the feed be in HTML, or JavaScript, or both? Would I need to use existing libraries and or APIs? Is their existing code with a similar enough function that I could use it as a starting point? Thanks

  25. I'm using the W3Schools Slideshow example here: http://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_js_slideshow.asp I have links on a different page, and I'd like each of those links to open the slideshow page on a specific slide. Is there a simple way to do this without rewriting much of the existing HTML/JavaScript/CSS?
