  1. Found these sites when I searched for w3schools in Google: Are they related anyway to w3schools? They are creating confusion by using similar domain name. 1. https://www.w3schools.in/ 2. w3schools.sinsixx.com
  2. I would appreciate clarification of allowed use of w3.css and w3codecolor.js. As explained on page http://www.w3schools.com/w3css/w3css_downloads.asp w3.css is "free to use. No license is necessary." Later we read "Or download w3.css and run it from your own web site" and "You can customize W3.CSS by changing ...". These quotes suggest that everybody can: - use w3.css file, - download it, - provide it from one's page (so, distribute), - customize. However, it is not clear if one can put customized w3.css on one's page. If W3Schools agrees with this, it should be stated and probably some conditions should apply. Just one example: I suppose that authors, Jan Egil and Borge Refsnes, would not be happy if somebody distributed modified file with their names without any information about changes. Even more uncertain one may feel using w3codecolor.js. On page http://www.w3schools.com/w3css/w3css_code.asp we read "You can download" it and "use". One can of course use it from the link provided by W3School. However, it is unclear if one can put this file together with one's web page (so, distribute it). Even without any changes, and without real intent of distributing it (one just puts it on other server to highlight some code, and does not want to depend on internet connection with the W3Schools server). Both files include only very short information about authors and version. It would be nice to read there more details about what users are allowed to do. I am very thankful for all the goodies W3Schools provides. These two files are very, very helpful. Probably the intent is that everyone can "free of charge, use, copy, modify, distribute this file if above copyright notice, this permission notice and a list of changes are included" (I am writing only about w3.css and w3codecolor.js). I, and probably all your fans, would be very grateful to clarify this "modification & distribution" issue.
  3. I am a complete Newbie and will be embarking on a big project to use a device for learning the web dev languages. That being said, with the availability of page source code info, inspect element etc. What should I be studying at the outset so that my design can't merely be cut and pasted and sold after all my hard work. I know there are copyrights laws, but we all no they are only a good as the paper they were written on if a person is determined to pirate something.
  4. So I've recently been learning HTML from W3school to develop a website. I have next to no previous web design experience, so when I needed, for instance, a box around my text, I would find a similar thing on the tutorials and copy the code they use in the "in the try it yourself" section. Is this allowed in terms of copyright? I'd prefer if a moderator or someone associated with W3school could comment on this. If there is a copyright infringement, then how would I be able to make it not? If I wrote the code myself, but it looked very similar to W3's coding because I'm learning from them, is this still an infringement? Thanks in advanced.
  5. Hey guys, I am currently in the process of building the HTML and CSS structure of a website for a friend. The website will use images, but the images that will be used will most likely be from Google image searches. I understand that any images used will belong to a third party. Will I be able to use any images I wish, as long as I reference them correctly somewhere in the HTML code? If so, how will I go about doing so? Would it be within the "alt" attribute? Any help with using third party images and referencing will be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the organisation I am building the web site for doesn't have a photographer and are highly unlikely to employ one. I will be happy to answer questions regarding the web site if it will help me get an answer. Thanks in advance.
