    ONLINE VALIDATOR

    I use the W3C validator religously but is there a bug in it? When I check my code it displays a "duplicate id" error. However, a duplicate id is required to connect the audio tag and javascript. I've uploaded the validator screen capture and a portion of my offending HTML5 and javascript code. Thoughts anyone... SLiM
  2. Hi Guys, I have a table that shows information and the status of that, being on or off. the on and off part is hard to notice and as it is the most valuable I was hoping to change it from simple text of on/off to a green/red circle. At the moment I am using a text input in a form for on/off. I have looked around and haven't found much related to this. I am having to replace the text input box with the radio button and if its clicked it will show green and if not it will show red. any suggestions on this? I will attach my code below: input form: <th>Repo Status: * <td><input type="text" name="status" value="<?php echo $status; ?>" /></td></tr> Displayed Table: echo '<td>' . $row['status'] .'</td>'; Thanks in advance
  3. <head> <script> $( document ).ready(function() { console.log( "ready!" ); $('#other').hide(); function otherTongue() { if ($('#tongue').val() == 'other_tongue') { $('#other').show(); } } }); </script> </head> <body> <form> <select name="tongue" id="tongue" size=4 onchange="otherTongue()" > <optgroup label='Oceania'> <option value=mi>Maori</option> <option value=haw>Hawaiian</option> <option value=sm>Samoan</option> </optgroup> <optgroup label='Not Listed'> <option value='other_tongue'>Other Language</option> </optgroup> </select> <input type='text' name='other' id='other' /> </form> </body> Why do I am receiving the error message: "Can't find variable otherTongue( )"?
  4. I am using the W3Schools CSS/JS modal dialog example: https://www.w3schools.com/howto/howto_css_modals.asp However I would like to be able to pass a parameter from the button to the modal window as a variable so I can use it to perform a database query and populate the modal. I HAVE looked through this site and others and can't find a straight forward way to do this. My code: The button: <button onclick='myModal($somevariable)'>Show modal</button> The click function: function myModal(myParams) { modal.style.display = "block" } The modal: var modal = document.getElementById('myModal'); The HTML on the webpage: <!-- The Modal --> <div id="myModal" class="modal"> <!-- Modal content --> <div class="modal-content"> <div class="modal-header"> <span class="close">×</span> <h2>Shot Plot</h2> </div> <div class="modal-body"> <p>Some stuff in the Modal Body using the myParams variable??</p> <p>Some other text...</p> </div> <div class="modal-footer"> <h3>footer</h3> </div> </div> </div> Any help appreciated, Lance
  5. I'm looking for a way to display the contents of an XML file on a web page with AJAX. I rely on the w3schools "simple CD catalog application", which shows a part of the XML (author and title) and, when you click on a title, displays the details of the CD. I need, however, to be able to add sorting and filtering when displaying artist and title - it could, for instance, be sorting the titles alphabetically or apply a filter based on the year of release. XSLT doesn't seem to work with AJAX so I hope JavaScript could be the answer: Is it possible to add such functions to the application example using JavaScript - and how could it be done? I'd really be glad if someone could help.

  7. I'm trying to develop a simple theatre seat reservation system. I'm using a text file "seats.txt", where I store seat number and status (f, r, s) and read the file line by line. If the user clicks on an image the javascript function is triggered and the image will change: <?php $counter = 0; $file = 'seats.txt'; $line = file($file); for($i=0;$i < 14;$i++){ $counter = $counter + 1; $string = $line[$i]; if($counter == 8) { echo "&nbsp &nbsp <img src='R1.bmp' /> &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp"; } if(substr($string,4,1) == "f") { echo "<img id=$i onclick='myFunction(id)' src='chkBox_10.bmp' title='0' /> &nbsp &nbsp"; } else if(substr($string,4,1) == "s") { echo "<img id=$i onclick='myFunction(id)' src='chkBox_2.bmp' title='2' /> &nbsp &nbsp"; } else if(substr($string,4,1) == "r") { echo "<img id=$i onclick='myFunction(id)' src='chkBox_1.bmp' title='1' /> &nbsp &nbsp"; } else { echo "<img id=$i onclick='myFunction(id)' src='chkBox_3.bmp' title='3' /> &nbsp &nbsp"; } } ?> <script> function myFunction(imgID) { var img = document.getElementById(imgID).title; if (img == "1") { window.alert("Reserved seat!"); } else if (img == "2") { window.alert("Sold seat!"); } else if (img == "3") { window.alert("Handicap seat!"); } else if (img == "4") { document.getElementById(imgID).src = "chkBox_10.bmp"; document.getElementById(imgID).title = "0"; } else { document.getElementById(imgID).src = "chkBox_4.bmp"; document.getElementById(imgID).title = "4"; } } </script> My question is now: How can I get the selected seats (from the client side javascript) into a shopping cart (eventually on another page)?
  8. Hi guys, I have a table with a delete column with deletes individual rows from the column, I am looking to add a delete warning. Now I know you can add a javascript function but im unsure how to do this as my page is built in PHP. Here is the delete column: echo '<td data-sort-initial="Descending"><a href="delete.php?id=' . $row['id'] . 10. The comment basically has my issue, but I'm basically trying to fix my second var prompt so it will actually run and I can't figure it out. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Line comment: var one above this comment isn't working, how do I fix it? I also need it to continue to the next else if statement once something is entered. 15. Hello, If i run the following code in an ASP page it loads the file (stored on local server) and outputs the text as expected; <p id="demo"></p> <button type="button" onclick="loadDoc()">Load Feed</button> <script> function loadDoc() { var xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) { document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML = this.responseText; } }; xhttp.open("GET", "XML_TEST.xml", true); xhttp.send(); } </script> I need to run this from a URL not a local file. The URL has the exact same data and if i run the URL in a browser i get the data displayed in XML in the browser but when i change my code to fetch the data from the URL nothing happens. <script> function loadDoc() { var xhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) { document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML = this.responseText; } }; xhttp.open("GET", "https://test.httpapi.com/api/domains/available.xml?auth-userid=user&api-key=key&domain-name=domain&domain-name=domain2&tlds=com&tlds=co.uk", true); xhttp.send(); } </script> any ideas please how i can get this to work?

There's an example on W3Schools that I've been following, but I'm unable to retrieve the data successfully. http://www.w3schools.com/php/php_ajax_database.asp Below is the source code: (HTML) <html> <head> //Javascript code <script> function showUser(str) { if (str == "") { document.getElementById("txtHint").innerHTML = ""; return; } else { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else { // code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200) { document.getElementById("txtHint").innerHTML = this.responseText; } }; xmlhttp.open("GET","getuser.php?q="+str,true); xmlhttp.send(); } } </script> </head> <body> <form> <select name="users" onchange="showUser(this.value)"> <option value="">Select a person:</option> <option value="1">Peter Griffin</option> <option value="2">Lois Griffin</option> <option value="3">Joseph Swanson</option> <option value="4">Glenn Quagmire</option> </select> PHP File: (getuser.phd) <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <style> table { width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; } table, td, th { border: 1px solid black; padding: 5px; } th {text-align: left;} </style> </head> <body> <?php $q = intval($_GET['q']); $con = mysqli_connect('www.example.com','user_Admin','12345-678','my_DB'); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysqli_error($con)); } mysqli_select_db($con,"ajax_demo"); $sql="SELECT * FROM user WHERE id = '".$q."'"; $result = mysqli_query($con,$sql); echo "<table> <tr> <th>Firstname</th> <th>Lastname</th> <th>Age</th> <th>Hometown</th> <th>Job</th> </tr>"; while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($result)) { echo "<tr>"; echo "<td>" . $row['FirstName'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['LastName'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['Age'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['Hometown'] . "</td>"; echo "<td>" . $row['Job'] . "</td>"; echo "</tr>"; } echo "</table>"; mysqli_close($con); ?> </body> </html> *MySQL table is attached I think the issue might exist from mysqli_select_db($con,"ajax_demo"); onwards inside the PHP file. Should I be referring to the table that contains the data inside the database? I have the PHP File hosted on my webserver, so I'm not sure why it won't retrieve that data when a person is selected from the list of options on the HTML page. Any help would be much appreciated.
  24. So So I'am Thinking Of A Way To Detect CSS3 Browser Support Using Client-Side Scripting (JavaScript),I Know There's A Library Out There To Handle Such Situations,But I Need A Code Or A Hint To Do This Without Any External Libraries. Any Suggestions Would Be Appreciated...
