Chocolate570
Hi, I've a stupid (maybe) question about Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/. My question is the follow. Wich language Google Team use with the Satellite(s)?I'm curious. Can you explain what you mean "with the satellites"?I believe they have a huge repository of images and they just dip in and out of it with javascript and HTML. That's the reason why if you have a slow connection and you're using google maps, you have to wait for some images to load when you're moving the map around. Norman
Don't know specifically but I've heard they use C++ and PythonAh ok. I actually don't know one of them! Can you explain what you mean "with the satellites"?Mhh, using a translator online I've "Satallite". Here an image: http://chezlorry.ca/alphabet/dessins/Satellite.GIF However, specifically, I mean *connecting* to the Satellite. Here are some python tutorials: http://www.awaretek.com/tutorials.html And here are some C++ tutorials: http://www.cs.wustl.edu/~schmidt/C++/ Just in case you want to start a google-maps-killer. :)2. You are correct--that is the word. But Google doesn't actually connect to the satellite. If you look on the bottom right of the maps screen, you'll see a copyright of the images. The images you're seeing aren't live, they have already been taken months, if not years ago.
aspnetguy
Yes this is true. My father in law looked at his house on Google Maps (Google Earth appears to use the same images) and in the pictures was a small shed that they had torn down almost 2 years ago :)Not sure who they buy these pictures from...maybe Google has their own satalite by now
Chocolate570
Lol. I'm guessing they buy the images from the state/country the images are from, or the company whose satellite took the pictures.Unless you're right about google's satellite. Maybe they'll blow up yahoo's headquarters with a huge laser cannon?
aspnetguy
Not if I can hack in and repoint it to MS first, lol...Disclaimer: I really don't hate microsoft's products...I just hate how they have their hands in your wallet every chance they get

justsomeguy
Google and the other consumer mapping services all buy their images from commercial satellite operators, they don't own the satellites themselves. There's no reason to buy a satellite when you can just buy the images that other satellites take. You can also scroll around Google Earth and watch the copyrights at the bottom change as you load different images. When you are in Google Earth looking at the US, the copyrights belong to Europa Technologies, NASA, and TerraMetrics. I'm not sure where Microsoft's mapping site is that has satellite images on it, but I remember when they launched it that you could type in the address of 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA, which is where the Apple Computer campus is, and Microsoft displayed a large, empty field. Apparently they decided to use an old black and white image for that area.
