navigation with xml

Recommended Posts

XML is not really what will collapse and expand navigation. It would only store it and represent it in a markup way that you would then use however you like. Think of it as XHTML, but without the predefined looks....You can only do collapsing and expanding and the like with JavaScript or with CSS as done on this page for example.

Hi boen_robot,I think that that now attention is shifting from XML to JSON. Its easier to use and stuff. What do you think about that?

If you mean that JSON is used as a replacement for XML in AJAX, yes. But it's certanly not a general replacement.Easier to use? For a JS guru, maybe. But not for me anyway.I remember reading somewhere about JSON not being secured enough. The article was about discovered vulnerability in GMail, failure of using plain JSON. In the end of the article, it practically said that if you're to use JSON, you should mark it up (essentially making it to XML) and extract it from that element. I'm no JS guru, so I don't know what type of vulnerability was that, but since I'm not interested in JSON anyway, I won't worry.

JSON is like code that we can save and then use it again. Yeah! It does have security issues, but I am sure they will be sorted out in due time....
