Norman
For example, if on 2009 we will have no more access to the web (all around the world, nobody!), what will be happen in your opinion?
aspnetguy
If we suddenly no longer had access to the Internet then business and everyday life would drastically change. There would no longer be ATMs, online banking, online shopping, debit machines, instant credit card processing, the list goes on and on. Basically rewind back to 1980 something. jeffman
My students would have to learn to use one of those funny big buildings with books inside. What's it called? Oh, yeah. THE LIBRARY.
Synook
Well, they wouldn't be able to come to school unless they could walk as all services would be down - no public transport, fuel services disrupted. When they eventually reached school they would hope that the library had lots of lighting, as power supplies would be gone too. And it would be a bit hard for them to find books unless they knew their Dewey number as the computerised indexing services would be down as well (unless your library was really old). But anyway, all you'd need to do is disable the thirteen root nameservers around the world and the internet stops http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_nameserver

(Die Hard 4.0)Seriously though, if the internet broke down in 2009, that would be the apocalypse, and would probably be joined by all the things Justsomeguy said. If any of the root servers were ever attacked they would be my first suspect . Down with the evil college students stealing from those starving artists... err... I mean us...err... RIAA lawyers. alexnofue
After all the fire and the gunfire, we might need to start all over again and... hey, thats a good idea, people let's do it, the winds of change are coming, chaaaaaaaaaargeeeeee
justsomeguy
But the RIAA would be happy. That's because the RIAA are agents of evil and seek to enslave humanity and destroy society. I guess I could have just called them "lawyers" though.
