Ingolme
There is no tag or attribute to open in a new tab. It's up to the user to configure their browser to open links in new windows or tabs.

justsomeguy
A lot of people asking about this lately. I thought there might be a value you can use for target to choose this, but this is all I've found:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537636.aspx Tabbed browsing also affects the DOM in other ways.New windows open as pop-up windows if any of the following features are disabled: resizable, menubar, location, toolbar, status, and scrollbars. This includes windows opened with open and showHelp. When the open method is used to open a new tab, the new tab becomes active if it was triggered by a user action, such as clicking a button. Otherwise, the new tab opens in the background and is inactive.
