This is for: A music production company that releases music and artists, teaches music production, and also records/remixes.When you see this as the opening page, what do you think? Does this interest you? Is it memorable? Does it turn you off? PLEASE take a moment and let me know your thoughts... I would definitely appreciate it!These are four images, one is with nothing selected, and the other three are for the three sections. Not shown, but whe you hover over each section, it will introduce a "drop down" of appropriate subsections.http://www.sonicphantasm.com/images/newlayout_inactive.jpghttp://www.sonicphantasm.com/images/newlay...cord_active.jpghttp://www.sonicphantasm.com/images/newlay...sten_active.jpghttp://www.sonicphantasm.com/images/newlay...earn_active.jpgThank you very much!PS - I know these are just "sketches", but I was curious as to if this is something that receives a very positive response before beginning. Again, thank you!

I really like them, the way different parts are highlighted for the page.

hey, I figured I would check this out, seeing as music production is a big hobby of mine and I'm in the process of redoing my own music website, and it always nice to find some like-minded individuals. The one thing that strikes me the most about this site, is that it doesn't seem (at least based on the the screens presented) to convey anything about music. To me, it seems more like it would be a Tool fan website or a 3rd person shooter (like Quake) fan website. Not too say that its a bad layout, or bad graphics or rollovers or anything like that, to me the first thing that jumps out to me is not music recording/production.Trust me, I'm not saying I'm any better, I've been struggling for the past month trying to figure out how to layout my new site, and come up with a decent theme and its been driving me crazy! :)

Cool hover, text at the bottom could be smaller. Suggestions: Divide up contact thru merch with something. "|" maybe? Maybe have fist page user sees be a section page of either East or West coast. Get rid of the whole: "Contact us HERE..." and just use "contact" link. On contact page you could list info, or have a form, or do both. Move that whole bottom part to the lower right of the site. Are the "Listen", "Learn", and "Record" links going to drop down something? I think I remember reading that in the JS thread. You could use css and hide the divs that would be dropdowns until a link is hovered.Pretty clean, I like it. I see it going places.

Thanks! And also for your input on the JavaScript thread... I'm completely new to all this, and am trying to figure out what I want to do and then learn what tools to use... I definitely see what you're saying about the bottom layout, and I'll definitely take your advice. As for thelinks: I will have a drop down for "Listen", "Learn", and "Record", and they will be "text images" as well. Would strictly using CSS work? And would it be best to make a separate div for each of the sections for the "light" underneath? Like I said, I'm new with everything so I'm open to suggestions and baby steps:)Thanks again for your input!-Colby

No problem. :)I think that CSS will do the job nicely, but if you want any fading in/out, I think you'll want to use jQuery or something. Flash?EDIT: Just found out that CSS has transition/fading support! Although I'm not sure if it can be used for images... AWESOME! What's not awesome is that it's only supported in Safari and Chrome at the moment, but FX's next release will support it as well.As for your changing backgrounds, weather you put them in divs or not I guess depends on weather or not you want the site to be fluid or fixed. (In terms of height and width of elements, fluid scales on different sized monitors/browsers and fixed is just that, fixed)I used the code provided in that link I gave you in the JS thread and some help from jkloth and DD to change backgrounds without using divs. I think you'll be set if you just make the background images, and position them appropriately with CSS, and call the change on hover using that script.Lemme know if you have any questions.
