Creating Own RSS Feed

Recommended Posts

Ok, I've been using Feed Generators for awhile now but I don't really like them. I don't have too much control over the styling - just how many characters are showed... It's kind of a pain and it's ugly. I want to make my own RSS Feed and just pull it straight from my blog so I can add pictures and all that good stuff. The problem is - how do I get it to automatically update? Do I need to use PHP or something of the sort?

Yes. You need to use PHP or something of the sort. You generate an RSS feed in a similar fashion to generaing an HTML document, but instead of outputting HTML with PHP, you'll output RSS code. If you aren't already familiar with how the contents of an RSS file look like, check the RSS tutorial.Word of caution: You aren't supposed to have great control of the appearance of an RSS feed. That's the whole idea behind it - to let users style it as they like, but provide them with the actual information and/or links to it.
