George J
Hi All,I want to set some graphic images as anchors that, when clicked, open a new window and display the first image but in a larger scale. Same as is very common in shopping websites. My question is what the best way to achieve this? My website is PHP/MySQL based but should I be looking at Javascript or Flash? Interested in what advantages one method has over the others.TIA
jeffman
However you do it, the work will happen in the browser, not the server. You could make something very pretty with a lot of Flash or JavaScript. What you described is basic enough to handle with simple JavaScript (see window.open) or even an anchor with a target attribute set to "_blank". George J
Hi Deirdre's Dad,Thanks for reply. My question is really - what are the merits/concerns when choosing how to do it. Rather than how to code it. Perhaps, as you seem to imply, I should just get on with it.
jeffman
window.open gives you a bit more control over the look of the window (less than 10 years ago, however) than simply using a target attribute.Frankly, I think users are getting VERY used to the lightbox experience for this sort of thing, instead of new windows, which are a tad hard to manage. There are libraries out there (jQuery has one FWIW), and many variations on the theme, too.
