skaterdav85
I've been reading about REST web services to get a better idea of the theory, and I was wondering about some of the terminology. In this article (http://www.packetizer.com/ws/rest.html), they talk about resources and representations. From my understanding, it sounds like 'representation' is used to mean the way the data is given to the requester (an application or a user), be it XML, JSON, or plain text. Would you agree? Ingolme
That seems right. Representation, from my understanding, is data. Any data that arrives from the server or is sent to the server from the client.
skaterdav85
and so a resource is something that generates a representation, like a php script generating XML or JSON?
Ingolme
The explain the resource to be like the software that handles the data, but they also seem to consider a blog entry in itself a resource. This probably refers to the tabular data in the database.
