I had read Google likes "heading" codes and so have used the following however the light background stripe I had hoped for is not showing up in Vista with IE8. <pre style="text-align: center"><em><span style="font-size: large"><strong><span><var>Martha's Vineyard Buyer Agents Welcomes You</var></span></strong></span></em></pre><hr />

You should be using CSS to style the text. I don't see any code in your example that would make a "background stripe" appear. HTML:

<h1>Martha's Vineyard Buyer Agents Welcomes You</h1>

CSS:

h1 {  text-align: center;  font-style: italic;}
