The parameter of exit?

What I don't understand is the difference among exit(), exit(0), exit(123), exit(-1)

 

I don't understand what the integer parameter is for..

Please give me some practical examples..

Exit status codes are used to determine the state of the program upon exiting. They aren't used in a web server environment with PHP, they are used in a command line environment. Another program might call PHP and expect it to exit with a status code.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exit_status
