I find this button to be very useful, but very annoying. Once you have viewed a topic the system remembers that the topic isn't "new" for you anymore. I would prefer that my viewing of a topic have no effect on the "newness" of that topic -- in case I want to find it again.

I don't know if this has been changed or if I never noticed the menu on the left side of the screen. You can select what criteria you want to use. I now have it set to "Last 24 hours" and the problem is solved.
