Happy birtday. So what's the dilemma here?

Thanks! :)aspnetguy is right... I don't want to get older, I was perfect being 18... but that's not nessarly a bad thing, just kind of bothersome I guess for me.

O... K... but I still don't see a "dilemma" in the real scence of the word. That is, you have to select one thing between two and you can't overcome that choise, yet are puzzled with which to select. If I'm guessing correctly, the dilemma is whether to get older or not, but as you said it yourself: you can't do anything about it :) .

At least you can go out and drink legally :)

Not here in texas, I have to be 21 or over to drink legally. I don't care anyways cuase I don't drink. In mexico you can drink and smoke what would be considered illegal drugs here in US legally at 18.

That's not true, I think the only country where smoking pot is legal is Holland. There was a law going around where Mexico would make it legal to possess small amounts of various drugs in order to keep casual users out of jail and make room for the dealers, but I don't think that law passed, there was some opposition to it.I was paying attention, it's only a 4 hour drive to a Mexican beach from where I live.

Well, acutally I haven't seen anything on TV or newspaper saying that the law didn't pass, but I did see people in mexico on TV certainally smoking it publicly... But I havn't been keeping track of those events... so what I said was probably a little dated. :S

At 18 we can do a lot of things, smoke, R-rated movies, vote, and get considered as an adult. Yet somehow we can't however drink, and gamble until we turn 21. The gambling part I hate. edit: what do mean those were my dumps? O_o?

What? you have never heard of birthday dumps  It's like when your pal or someone thumps you on the back the number of years old you are to celebrate your birthday, damn it used to hurt :) You have to be 18 to smoke :) , over here it's 16. Just recently though smoking has been banned in all enclosed public places in Scotland, so the air in pubs/clubs etc is alot cleaner: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3996587.stm :)

Hm. Here in Bulgaria there isn't a legal smoking restriction. There is one about not smoking here and there, but not about age or something. Perhaps it's because of this that the youngest smokers I've seen are about 8-9 years old. Some of those kids' parents even know for their bad habbit. Oh, such a pity. If you ask me, smoking should be as banned as drugs, but that's just the opinion of every non-smoker I guess.

I like to still pretend I am just 18...24 is getting to close to 30...:)

No closer than it is to 18 if you stop and think about it...

Are you for real  kids aged 8-9 can walk into a shop and buy a packet of cigarettes? that's shocking
???   18 is 12 years from 30 and 24 is only 6 years...stop being so philosophical :)
I think he meant 18 is 6 years from 24 and 24 is 6 years from 30... :) so that leaves you smack in the middle :)

I'm not sure about the buying, but I'm sure about the smoking itself. I'm not a smoker either, so I don't know if there are any restrictions for sure. If there are, then such kids most probably use older friends to get cigarettes for them. By older I mean something like 12-14 for which I'm absolutely positive there are no problems (still shocking I guess). It's just that there isn't anyone to complain for those problems and when there is no control, it doesn't matter if a law exists.By the way, ironic start of a topic on this day. Today at least here (not sure about the rest of the world) it's the day of the child, and we have a birtday boy not being a kid anymore and are discussing childhood stuff :) .

Yes, but 24 is just as close to 30 as 18.18 <-- 24 --> 306 years either way. :)And I'm not being philosophical, I'm being pedantic or ruminative.

You know you may be right, this was the last I saw on the issue:http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nati...mexdrugs04.htmlI haven't really hard anything since, they might have just passed it on the down-low.
At 18 we can do a lot of things, smoke, R-rated movies, vote,
..go to war and be asked to kill people, but try to have a beer and Hey buddy! You might screw your life up! That always struck me as strange. "Soldier, you just got back from war and killed 40 people, here's a medal for a job well done. But you can't drink, because we don't think you're responsible enough." :) But I was able to gamble when I was 18. I don't know if it's any different in Texas, but to play in a casino in Arizona is 18. I know that you have to be 21 in Vegas, but that's only because of the free booze you get when you play. Also, from what I remember in Europe, it was generally 16 to smoke and 18 to drink, but I've never even heard of anyone getting carded outside of England.
