Detecting Web Browser

My site uses frames, and I want to let people know that not having the most recent NS, IE, FF or Opera browser could ruin thier experience of the site. I already know how to make java alerts and implant cookies, but how would I have the browser check the browser they are using?

Not working. It says Netscape 5 instead FF1.5, IE4 instead of IE6, the only one that worked was Opera...Try this script: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/browsersniffer.htmSeems to be working with all important browsers and operating systems (it might need small changes to uptate it for IE7 and Opera >7).

You could use <noframes> to tell the user that their browser doesn't support frames, that's what it's for! Then give them a sitemap or something

Preferrably you should move away from frames alltogether, but that's another discussion for another thread...

no, frame were an attempt to arrange images on page, after looking over w3school i learned to use tables and css instead
