how can i know that the browser the user using supports the tabbed browsing

in my web page i want when the user click on a link with or with out pressing ctrl or shift keys.if he press shift key while click on the link the browser thatdo not suuport tabbed browsing will not open the new tab or not open a new window, so to avoid it i want the script by using i can know that the browser has tabbed browsing or not.

If the browser doesn't support tabbed browsing, and the user clicks a link while holding the shift key, the browser would open a new window :)Unless you want to avoid tabbed browsing because of a forced smaller window you want the user to get, I can't think of a reason why to figure out if the browsewr supports tabbed browsing.Besides, is it even possible to figure that out?

well you could guess by what type of browser they have... but there is no point to knowing. Opening a new windows or opening a new tab is the decision of the user, no the webmaster! If you check out XHTML strict, you will see that you can no longer forcea new window to open.
