Has anyone (else) seen Microsoft Expression Web already? I have it scince yesterday. I think it's one of the better WYSIWYG editors you can get nowadays. It uses CSS for styling, has a lot of coding tools, some of which I've been missing in Dreamwaver 8 and unless you're writing directly in the code, it's (almost) impossible to get invalid code. Making 3 column layouts is a breeze, with the catch that the columns can only be absolutely positioned (no floating layouts generation... sorry).

I consider using Notepad a waste of time.
As much as I prefer clean hand written code (I like Notepad2) I have to agree. I use Visual Studio (code mode) for writing code. I tsaves a ton of time.It is not cheating to get the work done faster as long as it is still good quality and not garbage (aka Frontpage). Anything else is asking to go bankrupt!

At the very, very mininum I require syntax highlighting and auto-indent. Block indent and auto-commenting also save time. And code templates are great for inserting commonly used pieces of code that you don't really feel the need to write 10 times every day. I don't use a lot of IDEs, Visual Studio is a good program, but I just prefer a lightweight text editor with a few very useful features. Although if I'm working on a C# application, I will do the entire thing in VS. But for everything else, just give me ConTEXT, or give me death!

I use both HTML-Kit and Dreamweaver, but mostly Dreamweaver.I use HTML-Kit just for quick editing and modifications, and the really big stuff, especially file management, is kept with Dreamweaver. :)

I use KWrite.I used to use Notepad, or Wordpad, so I could see exactly what I was doing.Now I use KWrite, which is similar to Wordpad, except that it highlights different elements of the HTML to make things even more clearly.

Sweet, if you haven't checked out code templates, you might enjoy that as well. Code templates are how ConTEXT does auto-complete. You can download a template for PHP4/5 here:http://forum.context.cx/index.php?topic=1526.0Download one of the ctpl files, rename to php.ctpl (instructions are in the post), then restart ConTEXT. When editing a PHP file, you can start to type something, like a switch statement for example. Type "swi", hit ctrl-j, and this gets filled in for you:

switch(){	case "";	// do something	break;	default;	// default option	break;}

with the cursor inside the parentheses for you to type the expression. If there are multiple possiblities, like type "fo" and hit ctrl-j, it will pop up a list with "fopen", "for", and "foreach" with a description of each and you can chooes which one to insert. Just something to save a little time.

Hi,I read the entire 14 pages and well, got to know much of what these editors offer, I even checked out a few of them like context, pspad etc. I didn't see anyone comment on this but I use textpad for most of my editing, it has a nice uncluttered interface and feels like notepad but has features of others like pspad, context though tabbed browsing is missing but I don't miss it that much. It has all the regular features like syntax highlighting for all major programming languages including html, php, asp and hey you can write your own custom highlight rules too and they provide examples. It can load huge files and has macro record features and nice search/replace feature for entire batch of files. Just check it out once, you may get addicted to it simple, robust and clean look. And it free too for personal non-commercial use. :) Regards,lonebiker

Short question:Does anyone actualy consider using frontpage's display, thinging, webbuilding? It is in no way fun moing little icons around a screen, and it produces crazyly (I officialy cannot spell. I think) long amounts of markup, for not very much...I honestly don't get it! - except for the fact that schools can throw Frontpage at their students, and get back a powerpoint presentation (that is bascicly all I concider you get)I do not intend to offend anyone, so please just take this as a question.

Some people who are put in charge of maintaining or creating a website aren't interested in learning markup and don't care how fun it is to create a page, so they use things like Frontpage and Dreamweaver.

Good point, but they are really missing out!
