i added the fillowing coding to my stylesheet and now my style sheet is not valid!

Styling the scrollbar was introduced by Microsoft not W3, so basically it's not part of the standard and therefore won't validate.If you look at your page with another browser like opera or firefox then you will notice that they ignore those definitions.

If you really want custom scrollbars at least for IE, you can enclose those styles in another IE only stylesheet with IE's conditional comments.

Other browsers don't completely ignore it. It makes the scrolling smooth and makes it scroll longer than you scroll for. I hate it!
