Without a trailing slash on subfolder addresses, you might generate two requests to the server. This is a quote from here... http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_links.asp I suppose they are saying that a link such as... <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/html/'>http://www.w3schools.com/html/">Visit our HTML tutorial</a> ...is more efficient than a link such as... <a href="http://www.w3schools.com/html">Visit our HTML tutorial</a> ...because the first one is clearly describing a path to a folder.
