  1. I have a '<table> that contains three columns. I would like to label the columns and in addition if I am able to have the column names "follow" the user as they scroll down and maintain the first line position on the screen I would like to do that as well. Does anyone know what is the best way to label my columns in HTML?Thank you!Eric

    Meaning of {} and =>

    Many thanks to all of you for your great responses. This is how a self educated programmer like myself is able to advance himself.
  3. Below is the context in which they occur. What do {} and => mean? I searched the PHP manual but found no results for either.$query = "select * from dsg_user_stations where uid = {$_SESSION['uid']}";$offset_array = array(-400 => "+4 hour",-500 => "+5 hour",-600 => "+6 hour",-700 => "+7 hour",-800 => "+8 hour",-900 => "+9 hour",-1000 => "+10 hour",-1100 => "+11 hour"); Thanks.
  4. I keep getting errors in regards to this variable. Like this one:Notice: Undefined index: logged_in in /var/www/htmlincs/main_nav.inc on line 11Anyone know what may be happening?

    include snafu.

    I have verified that the files in question do exist in that directory. My operating system is CentOS5. The files clearly exist and in that location as well. Anyone know what might be going on?Warning: include_once(/var/www/htmlincs/main_nav.inc) [function.include-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/html/incs/header.inc on line 30Warning: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening '/var/www/htmlincs/main_nav.inc' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/zend/share/ZendFramework/library:/usr/local/zend/share/pear') in /var/www/html/incs/header.inc on line
  6. I'd love to but I've signed a NDA.
  7. I'd love to discuss these things but it's top secret. It is a sports oriented web site with thousands of lines of PHP and mySQL code in it. I don't want to have to reprogram all of it if I can avoid it.
  8. I have code from a previous developer. None of it works. All the PHP is thrown into a big pile like dog crap. All I hear from the previous developer is "It works on my server, it should work on yours". Well it doesn't. He won't tell me the contents of his phpinfo();. He won't tell me how he has configured Apache server. There is a lot of use of $_SERVER() type variables and a lot of use of HEREDOC syntax which is really bothering me I think because I am new to the whole HERDOC concept. Mainly his pages don't even display at all. Period. White screen of death in Mozilla and IE. I need to know

    HEREDOC Syntax.

    Do I need to do anything to enable HEREDOC? I have some existing code that is using HEREDOC Syntax and I want to check to see if my PHP server is supporting it. I am familiar with using phpinfo();, I just don't know what to look for yet.Thanks
  10. I'm dealing with a big file that resides on a linux server running Fedora 14. feof() is failing me. It never returns false. fgets() is also failing me. It also never returns false. How can I go about finding the end of the file exactly?Thanks.
  11. I'm looking for detailed instructions on how to set up remote debugging for a remote server running Fedora 14. I have tried damn near everything and I have not been successful in getting anything to work yet. I have tried NuSphere, NetBeans, Aptana, Zend Studio and many more. None worked for me. Is there a good tutorial on the subject. It is absolutely critical I have debug capability.Thanks.

    passthru()

    I love passthru but I am dealing with 2 million lines. I only want to display the last 200 lines or so. I am sending the output of a gunzip to the browser so I can watch it go down.
  13. With regards to 'allow_url_fopen', is there a way to set the environment variable to on via a .php script? If no can it be done via an .htacess file? I am working with a webhost that hides most of the configuration from me so I am limited on what I can do. I really need this variable to be set to on.Thanks.

    Connect via FTP.

    <?php $ftp_server = "dailysportsguide.com"; $conn_id = ftp_connect($ftp_server) or die("Couldn't connect to $ftp_server");?>I am able to connect to this host by using FileZilla. When I run this PHP code on my GoDaddy server it dies. It does not connect. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this type of connection.Thank you

    ANSI question

    Thank you that was very educational. I had been having a lot of problems with my strpos(). I finally have it dialed in. I am using Notepad to create an ANSI .txt file that I read in to PHP using the standard I/O functions. I had been having problems but I just started a new .txt file and retyped everything in from scratch and now it works just fine. For the life of me I just don't know still what happened but now that I understand a bit about how PHP deals with things when it comes to reading files I will be better prepared in the future.Thanks!

    ANSI question

    Does PHP5 support ANSI character encoding for the fgets() function? I can not find any information on this topic. Also what if my text file were UTF-8? What if my text file were UTF-16? I am trying to track down some problems I am having with strings in PHP5. Thanks a lot this is a very helpful forum.Eric
  17. You are right! I will get on to fix that right now. Incedentally I finally got strpos working but I do not know how or why it is working now but it did not work before yet. It is as if it magically just started working after I replaced a few charachters in the text file.
  18. I am not certaun at all. In fact I don't think that it does. Is there a remedy?
  19. At this point I think I am willing to pay for the answer. My strpos does not work. My echo does not work. I can't even create my own strpos. My program is ignoring charachters that clearly exist before my very eyes in my debugger.<?php$cnt = strlen($book); for($int=0;$int<$cnt;++$int){ echo $book[$cnt];}?>

    "," not working.

    Thanks for the reply but that just isn't it. I did echo the string and clearly it contains a number of commas. I believe this to be a character encoding issue but I have not identified the problem just yet.

    "," not working.

    Sorry guys. To me this code couldn't be more cut and dry yet the comma is NEVER found! What do I do in a situation like this? EasyPHP on Windows7.<?php$fh = fopen("guestbook.txt",'r');$book = fread($fh,filesize("guestbook.txt"));fclose($fh);$cnt = strlen($book); for($int =0; $int<$cnt; ++$int) { if($book[$int]==',') echo ","; }?>Thanks!
  22. My strrpos function is having a very hard time locating my ','. EasyPHP installed on Windows7. It finds the third instance of the comma but not the first. Does anyone know why the strrpos function blows past three ',' charachters before it finds me a comma?<?php$start=0;$pos=0;while($pos=strrpos($book,",",$start)){ $entry=substr($book,$start,$pos); $start=$pos+1; echo $entry; }?>Thanks!Eric
  23. The Bull Penn Mexican Sports Grill <-- Return from fgets();Do you guys see the garbage characters. Well I'm on Windows7 using EasyPHP. Everything is working so well other than this I would really not like to change my programs or OS. My plain text file only contains "The Bull Penn Mexican Sports Grill". Also this only happens on the first iteration of fgets(). Strange. What say all you other PHP'ers?
  24. I am using fgets(); to read my plain text file. For some reason only on the first call to fgets(); there are some very funny squiglydoos that come in right before the first char in my plain text file. All the other fgets(); are just fine. They don't have any squigly doos. How come only the first line has a few squigly doo's? Is that because i use Windows7? Why are there squigly doo's. There is not supposed to be any.
  25. $query = "INSERT INTO dsgbars.bars VALUES('name','address')"; I have to pass $barname, $baraddress in the above mysql query. How can this be done? Thanks!
