Renegade605
The mail() function in PHP does not work for me. At first I got an error indicating that the server was not set up properly (I host my own). Now there's no message and it still doesn't work. Is there a setup I should run on my webserver? Synook
You have to install an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) server in order to send mail.

Synook
Download one and follow the installation instructions. What OS are you on?Or you may be able to use your ISP's, or an email provider's - for example, GMail allows use of their SMTP server.

boen_robot
I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3.Do you have any suggestions for free SMTP servers with basic functions?I'd suggest hMailServer. It's a fully featured free mail server. It will serve you well for the mail() function, and much more. Not to mention it's incredibly easy to use for a product with so many features.
