    Learning ASP

Hi..I've just started reading about ASP and have come accross the scripting languages. As you know, ASP comes with VBScript and JScript (Microsoft's Javascript). I am familiar with Javascript , so stems my question:Do I have to bother with VBScript when I obviously can always use JScript? I mean are there any disadvantages for not using VBScript and choosing JScript instead?Any other advice/information you may supplement regarding the prefered scripting language?Thank you all.
  3. Yeah, it didn't cross my mind to look at the document.getElementById as a method that either returns a reference or a null. "document.getElementById" delivers a return regardless of any event in the document, that is if it been grounded otherwise - could terminate - you could verify whether it failed or reached my statement or not by comparing it to either true or false - and in case it didn't it would execute my statements. While it does not work like this, comparing it to false/true does not make sense. Am I thinking right?Regardless, thanks for your input (appreciated). Gonna play with "!=null / ==null" from now on.
  4. Hello,I know that the common way to check whether a certain element/object exists is simply to use a statement like this:if (element) {code} // to perform a task if an element existsif (!element) {code} // to perform a task if an element does not existHowever when I do this - it wont execute/cause an error:if (element==true) // if existsif (element==false) // if doesnt existI ponder why the last method won't work using boolean values. I would be very grateful if anyone could explain me the reasons behind.(I aim to use boolean values on the grounds that it is a lot easier to read/code about)

Hello,I am wondering if there is a way to set up anchors so that they wouldn't link to anything and act as buttons without changing scrolling position? Thanks.
  7. why dont you simplify your buttons to:MC_Button.onRollOver = function () {//code}MC_Button.onRollOut = function () {//code}MC_Button.onPress = function () {//code}etc..
  8. Deirde,Thanks for referring me to DOM methods against a head element, worked like a charm - more importantly IE 6 likes it (able to switch stylesheets on every ajax call). Although taken some time to work it out cause haven't used anything like it before,
  9. hm, oddly enough the styles that come within elements (as for instance <div style="etc.">) will be displayed/applied in IE 6. unfortunately that's not enough, and I really need to find a way how to provide styles in the standard fashion as if they would be coming from the <head></head> section or external file.
  10. Hello,It is about *XMLHttpRequest/ActiveXObject, in IE 6.0:White trying to build pages with dynamic content, I have run myself into a problem. Everything is fine with Firefox, however IE 6.0 won't apply any styles/stylesheet that come within a document. In other words if I am going to import a document into another document, the result of an imported document will be displayed without any styles (even though styles are embeded)! I tried a lot of random ways - but IE 6.0 would always ignore associated styles and display raw data/content.Anyone got an idea how to apply styles towards rotating/dynamic content in IE 6.0? Thanks in advance! function loadXMLDoc(){if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); }else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); }xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { document.getElementById("display").innerHTML=xmlhttp.responseText; } }xmlhttp.open("GET","service.html",true);xmlhttp.send();}// works fine in firefox and does incorporate content as they are/with styles// works in IE 6.0, but does incorporate only the content itself without any styles/css embeded within (just plain raw data)
