Assigned to remake a website

http://insigniaonline.ucoz.com/That website was made for a game. For a learning experience my friend wants my to rebuild it. By the looks of things, most of the coding is ASP. Problem = I don't know ASP nor want to learn. I want to rewrite in PHP. I'm confident I can but what made me stumble upon this problem was looking at the chat box deal. I have no idea how to code that and I can't find it because everything is in a language I don't understand. Is it possible to make it in a PHP form? And if so, any tips? I want to try it by myself, but I don't really know how do begin.
