I'm not sure I get the idea... it was like you just threw a bunch of buzzwords and terms without realizing what they mean. What community services? What non-profit orgnizations? How is making web sites for non-profit organizations a community service for your school? What lists? Reccomendations for what?

Err, are you sure that qualifies? When I was at school, it had to be on-site experience.Anyway, I suggest you start by asking organisations local to your area - the smaller they are, the less likely they are to have a web presence. You can visit them in person and discuss your ideas with them.

Your school may have an office to help you. The college I taught at had a Service Learning office.Also:http://craigslist.orghttp://www.volunteermatch.org/http://www.idealist.org/if/as/volhttp://www.serve.gov/Important:Choose an organization with a mission you believe in - if you like animals, help a shelter, if you have a religious affiliation see if a local group needs a site, or some other passion. You'll understand what you're doing and why it matters better.Be sure you have the skills to build a good site, knowing HTML isn't enough, you need to be able to do CSS and javascript, as well as a bit of server side scripting. Run through these quizzes: http://w3schools.com/xhtml/xhtml_quiz.asp, http://w3schools.com/css/css_quiz.asp (and a few more). They're listed on the home page of w3schools.com.Be ready to dedicate a significant amount of time to understanding what they need and want.Know what you don't know. If they ask for features and you don't know how to do the work - be honest. You shoul d have your own site before trying to build one for someone else. Do you have one? Have you worked with a hosting company? Registered and transfered a domain name? Set up email accounts?Avoid any form of payment processing, due to complex security. PayPal would be okay, but that's about it. Trust me.

www.oswd.orgfree templates for basic webpages. Ask your school for some server space/ a domain to work with. Since your volunteerism is for them, then they should be willing to assist you.
